Over in the 49th, some of us like to fly over enemy territory, spank the target, and fly home, just so we can thumb our noses at the enemy the whole way back saying "nanny nanny boo boo you didn't kill me!"  :D

It's also good FSO practice.

Having a fight and get shot down after bombing is preferable to just bail but its not all the time there are any uppers over target.

Since HTC says "its not against the rules", i propose we create a forum thread dedicated to these B(omb) n' B(ail) D(umb) n' D(umber) "pilots".
It's also good to know that some of them are in Top50 of people wishing "game had more subscribers"... = hypocrits.  :O

I think you will find HTC saying that this will be against the rules  ;)

Just post the film of the 'bomb and bail'er in the films and screenshots forum and call the post something like 'Bomber Time Management'

Limit comments so nothing can be classified as inflammatory, and you should be good to go.

If everything goes precisely and spectacularly right with this plan, what will the result be?

Well, one might find out how often this occurs.  I haven't seen it very often, but, then, my flying time has been way down over the last few years, so there may be more instances, now.  I think it would be interesting to see if it is 50 or a hundred guys doing it, or just 3 or 4 doing it 25 times.  Which kinda goes back to what the OP is looking for.

The ones that bail just to deny a chaser the opportunity to kill them is despicable.. IMHO.  And if taunting ensues to that effect, that's even worse.  Illegal? no.. Shameful and Shame-able, ..yes.

There will certainly be instances where it is justifiable..  A sudden burst of wife-ack, visiting neighbors, emergency family time with little ones.. etc.   And I don't think anybody would fault the alleged BnB'er for that.

If, however, we see the same person a dozen times in a month with the same excuse.. one might get suspicious.

I would hope that those who chose to post such films use a little prudence as to the likelihood the bomber driver knew they were being pursued ( The only enemy being on the ground and reporting a guy who bailed from 20k over their head wouldn't be considered a BnB. )

Now.. if there's no enemy around you and you bail, you wont be getting filmed, anyway.

I know that HTC was looking at even, possibly, reversing damage done by bombers if they bailed within x mins after their drop.  I don't think they accounted for being killed by an enemy within that timeframe, tho.  And this was a few years ago, so it must have gotten some attention.  Maybe it wasn't really that big of an issue back then, after they observed the actual frequency.  It may still not be that big of an issue.  That could be supported/denied by such films.

I like the idea of if you bail after so many minutes of bombing without suffering any damage from enemy aircraft, it is announced on global channel that "playername" has cowardly bailed after a bombing run. Then it will be known who bombs and bails and player can be poked fun at

My time to climb to 30k is just as valuable.

OK so we both have points of view that are valid to each of us.  :salute

It just "seems" that when I have witnessed it - it is to avoid a fight.  They bail just before I get in proxy range after tracking them.  My observation could be wrong.  Could be just recurring coincidences.

Curious that the ones I have encountered tend to not bail right after drop - but rather wait 5-10+ minutes later in route back to base???   :headscratch:

EDIT: I propose then that fighters get The Enigma.  For those bomber pilots that bail say 15% of the time or more (reset each tour) we get to see them visible even if strats down.  Immediately after they up.  We get to see what bombers they are in too.

Is there a stat that shows which bomber pilots bail the most?

There are stats on sorties in the "Scores and Stats" on the AH web page.

It is broken down by the scoring categories, so bomber bails can also be hidden in "Attack" sorties.

As we Menacing Ferrets like to say: a little role-playing goes a long way.  I especially hate the bomb-and-bail numbnuttery.  What's the hurry?  Landing a buff after a harrying attack is a real rush, not to mention chalking up an air-to-air kill in a bomber.  Some folks should maybe stick with Diablo, and leave the combat sims to those of us mature enough to appreciate why they're so great.

ive said this before ill say it again...

My time is too valuable to fly back after hitting a strat if no one ups to defend it.

It all depends on how you view this game.  If you bomb and bail, then this is nothing more than an arcade game.

If this is a flight simulator, you fly all the way back.  The flight isn't over until you land your plane, or get shot down trying.

We can all agree the lowest of low in this game is a set of buffs who bail because someone took the time to challenge them. I like the idea of the system calling out bomb and bail buffs but that mght be tricky to code i dunno. Will we ever see it i doubt it.

I like Drones idea as well but thats time that could be spent playing and it wont stop that player from doing it again :/

I swear I want to be stopped everytime i up buffs but if no one challenges me then ill just bail and reup... unless im in 29's of course

I auto record every sortie, Found some bomb and bail bombers and didn't even have an icon but the film showed who it was and I called him out on it.
