I wonder why high end HOTAS system almost never feature any form of FFB.

In the racing simulation scene, FFB wheels are a must have item. So much so that non FFB wheels don't even exist anymore.

Dunno.  No FFB stick that I've ever used made me want one.  On the contrary, using one was always a huge argument against them as the feedback is crap.

I've tried Aces High with a Sidewinder 2 and the FFB feels very much like canned effects.

I have no doubt that the problem relies not only with hardware, but software also.

I've not done AH with one, but other games that I have done always feel like canned effects as well.  The force the stick is showing never seems relevant to what is happening on the screen beyond "something is happening."

That's spot on.

I guess there isn't a big enough market for FFB sticks to warrant having the FFB linked to the physics. For example: No one was really developing for V.R until the Oculus Rift came about.
