Intel to release Skylake platform Aug 5

http://wccftech.com/intel-launches-core-i7-6700k-core-i5-6600k-unlocked-skylake-cpus-5th-august-skylakes-platform-roadmap-detailed/

Should be interesting - I've been holding off upgrading my AH rig and one other gaming PC for this date for a while now.  I've had the 5960x box I build after having a very cheap 5960x CPU fall in my lap essentially taken over by the "boss" of the home for her video editing and such, but my 3820 and 4930k x79 have been waiting almost 3 years now to be upgraded.  I have 980 and 980SLI in them respectively, and a Titan in the x99 box, but I'll be going with 980ti almost certainly if the new Skylake stuff is indeed available in 4 or 5 weeks.

I'm interested to see what mother board offerings will be like from the usual suspects for the i7 6700k, and how it'll oc and perform in general.  Even with DDR4 and the extra pipelines and such, I'm not expecting a huge increase in fps than my 4930k delivers with 980sli cards, but every little bit helps, and as I said, I've been waiting for the "new" platform in order to finally upgrade a couple older systems.

nVidia is rumored to be considering some decent price cuts to their entire lineup, from Titan on down through the 980ti to the 960 line up, after the AMD release and price points.  Hopefully they do so, and it coincides with the new Intel platform - be good timing, as a lot of other folks must be waiting in the wings to upgrade as well.

Broadwell was downright boring, so I don't really count it.  Upgraded on Sandy and then Haswell (the Sandy became my encoding PC).  Think I'll skip this "Tock" even though I got the last two and wait for the "Tick" instead.

Well this is interesting, and not in a good way: http://www.engadget.com/2015/07/16/intel-skylake-chips-delayed

The URL itself is misleading, the chips AFTER skylake are delayed (cannonlake) and they're inserting a new line instead.

Edit: Better article about the Cannonlake / 10nm delay: http://www.anandtech.com/show/9447/intel-10nm-and-kaby-lake

I like the additional lanes, and the PCIe 4. . . but it is not enough to push me to adopt it.

Still happy with Z97 LGA 1150 (gaming), and the ASUS Z10PE 2011-3 (workstation).
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.
