I agree with the Japanese fella.  Building something huge and sticking guns on it is.....so American.

The design is ridiculous though.  It's a gun toting robot that.....skylines in a very big way, has no chance of using any cover, moves really slowly and in a robot v M1A1 battle I have serious doubts about the pilots armour shield (mesh iron by the looks of it) withstanding a 120mm SABOT round.

The American way is the right one. A huge war robot should look military not like the result of some emo visual kei hairstylist contest.

No gods or kings. Only Predator.

It doesn't look military, it looks industrial.  To look military it'd have to be about 16ft lower and have a multi-billion dollar sensor suite that didn't work and was designed by committee.

Oh and stealth capabilities.  What they may be I have no idea but everything is stealth these days....

Except these weren't designed to get a military contract as far as I'm aware. They even said in the video they made the mesh cockpit so the pilot could get hit by the paintball splatters from other robots. It's all for kicks and giggles, not taking on Abrams and Leopards.

EDIT:: Also big guns and mechs are a Japanese things so saying "typical American" doesnt stand up...

:)  I didn't say typical American and if there was a rolleyes smilie I wouldn't have used it.  I said so American.  And I stand by that comment.  It's not a bad thing to be 'so American'. :D

And this challenge that's been laid down is for a melee fight.  I'm rather looking forward to seeing it, mechs swinging half ton battleaxes around.  I still say that a mesh iron cage for the pilots isn't enough though.  A mech 4ft high with a 1500rpm 6ft diameter spinning disc on the front end would do much better in a melee.

Here's a model:

I just meant the idea.  :neener:

And the mesh design was before Japan agreed to the challenge as long as there would some melee. I'm sure there will be modifications to the american cockpit for safety reason.

Also for the record, I like the Japanese one way more. He's right in saying Mechs are a Japanese thing. Their design is just so..so good. It has pizzazz. The US one looks Mad Max-y, which is still cool, but not as cool, in my opinion.

What amazes me is that the Japanese are allowed to keep the "Rising Sun" in their national flag but the Germans are not allowed to have the Swastika...both had horrible crimes against humanity. Why is that?

Because it's a national flag where as the other was a regime specific one? A lot of bad things have happened under a lot of flags, including ours, but you can't let a few mistakes forever stain them.

Back on topic, here is a cool video of the japanese mech!

Nope. Wrong answer.
National flag of Germany, 1935-1945. (Lower right) While Japan has the rising sun.

I will tell you why.

Germany, as a citizen whole, owned up to their atrocities. Japan chose to hide them. As they do removing context of their atrocities from the history books as they teach their children today.
