Before doing that I'd try the Update Readiness tool mentioned above. Taking ownership of system folders may expose to a security risk. I believe the kind of folders in question should be owned by "SYSTEM" instead of yourself or the admin group to prevent a hacker getting access to them.

well Bizman none of the tools mentioned here worked. so i finally said norton stinks, backed up all the files and recovered windows . this came with norton pre installed  so i did not activate norton and removed it the old fashion way installed all 260 windows updates . and all is well with the world without norton. :banana:
