TrackIR
« on: July 17, 2015, 12:40:21 PM »
I am wanting to get a TrackIR and wanted to know how difficult it is to set up. How is set up for aircraft vs GV's?

Has anyone been able to share a profile to make it easy on someone who have never used a TrackUR?

Thanks!

I got TIR5. I installed it and never did anything else. It's a perfect fit.

The only issue might be getting the camera pickup at the right height, or making sure there is no light source behind you (confuses the pickup). Otherwise all good.
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

So there is nothing to configure at all? Is there a profile that it places in Aces High folder?

You can load the software ,plug in, adjust where the camera is pointing, start AH and play.

You will want to personalize it and the profile you like starting out may not be what you want when you're used to it.

Cool! I just bought the TrackIR 5 from Amazon for $148.00. Can't wait to try it out. How hard is it to get use to it rather than using the hat switch?

Thanks,

There's a few threads on these forums that have other's profiles.  if I remember correctly, there are 3-4 profiles from the box, and they work fairly well with a few small tweaks. Tweaking is almost like setting the scaling for your stick.  The profiles are stored within the TIR folder. So you can drop a new profile (from another player) in, and then select it from a drop down on the TIR screen. The most important thing to do is Map a "center" button on your stick. cause you will use it A LOT.

Once you get used to TIR, you will never want to fly with out it. It brings a whole new layer to the game !

latrobe's profile is the one I use and it's the best fit. I tend to move around a lot while playing so I increased the deadzone a bit, but otherwise it works great.

It can take awhile to get used to, there are players that tried it for a few days and gave up. You HAVE to spend some time setting up your profile, test it, tweak it, test it some more.

I recall replying to thread here awhile back, where I explained the importance of setting a "limit" also. I have all axis on my profile set with a 180 degree limit. and I have my scaling down to suit me perfect. for instance, if I turn my head just 20 degrees, i'm looking dead 6. and because I have it limited at 180, no matter how much further I turn my head in the heat of combat looking around franticly, it'll never go beyond dead 6. then I just move my head to the side a few inches to look around the seat.

I personally don't recommend it, but some players turn off certain axis and use the hat switch for certain views. Yes you can mix and match.  say if you love flying hellcats, and you cant get used to turning your head, and moving it to the side, But you have a decent view already mapped on your hat,  Just turn off that axis, and your hat switch will take over that view. (even with all axis turned on, you'll still be able to use your hat for the DEFAULT views, but modified/saved head positions will only work on axis that are disabled)

Also, their is the F9 function, which instantly turns TIR off, and you can use your Hat settings. I have this mapped on my controller for when I jump into a field gun or tank. It can get real confusing using TIR in Ship guns !! lol

Good post ^^.

I too have the "disable trackIR" mapped to a throttle button, but more importantly, I have the "center trackIR" mapped as well.  See what I find a common occurrence is when I look around, the look back straight ahead, my view ahead is always a little askew, which means my gunsight is either only half visible, sometimes not even visible at all.  Hitting "center" will quickly return my TrackIR viewpoint to dead ahead, with the gunsight lined up as normal.  I find shooting with only half the gunsight lined up throws my aim way out, even though technically the stream of rounds flies at the same place so far as the dot on the gunsight is concerned.  It's just after years of lining up shots the same way, without the same visual cues being in the same spots, makes me miss, a lot, when I don't center my trackIR view when looking back forward.

I also find the hat view method is still quicker at times, and in certain situations I'll flip trackIR off and on depending on the action and orientation of threats around me.

When you tweak the profile you are using, play with one axis at a time, this was a big help to me setting it up. I use the same profile for Planes and GV's
