Ranking
« on: July 25, 2015, 07:27:30 PM »
I know I will be flamed for this but screw it........................... ...

I do not fly as much as most, so every month when things reset, my rank for the 1st log is 0, as all others. Now, when I play ranked zero I have my best kill ratio. I seem to have no problems hitting targs in the air. The subsequent logs I am ranked. I usually am ranked in the mid teens, once I get ranked my gameplay is not the same as when I am at zero.

I have always wondered why I would have, what seemed like, limited ability, poor skills, just bad, 90% of my game play. Then I finally noticed that those few stellar days I have are when my rank is zero. I will never have a low rank cuz I cannot sit and play all day, or even every day.

So I ask AH flat out, why am I seeing this strange disparity?
I just want the game to reflect the offline mode where I practice, seem to be able to see the bullets hit every time. Online, I seem to see no little flashes, 50% of time, rubber bullets and get killed with single pings. I swear, someone will pull up in front of me, I will go with, get close and nothing hits.

I just want to feel like I have half a chance. At 60ms, an eyeblink, lag not the answer. :bhead

Might want to check your v-sync settings for the rubber bullets? It can make a big difference if it is set wrong. There used to be a sticky in one of the forums?

Connections always make a big factor too. I get a lot of rubber bullets aswell,  but I just deal with it. Makes me hella mad shooting a plane 39 times and doing no damage.

On the ranking part. Part of it is psychology, the other is understanding the fundamentals to ranking in the game. It isn't about how long you play, but the areas of each rank category you can achieve. In fighter rank, kills per sortie per time, hit #, and deaths factor into that category. You have to keep those high for the whole month to satisfy a good fighter score. Now, 4-9 sorties with high amounts of kills in a quick time with good aim and no deaths, could only take 4 hours of time and a player could have a top 10 score in fighters for the whole month. Attack, bombers, and GVs, all work in a similar way and have their own categories to calibrate score.  Also in the beginnijg of the month, it takes a few good sorties to have a good rank, as everyone starts fresh and the majority haven't played yet so their aren't a lot of stats to measure.

I say psychology, because it is up to you how you want to play, and if you want to make score a part of it, you have to learn the dynamics of it and and be somewhat skilled at it. Many players don't take it seriously. So their style of play doesn't reflect the same style as a score achiver's would.

Violator made some good points.  Especially the psychology behind it.   I havent played nowhere near as much as I would like to in the last year but when I sit down.  Everytime I take off I still feel like im going to hit and kill every red guy that comes my way.  Put it down to pma or just hardwired practice after a few sorties it slots back into place.   The rank takes care of itself when your feeling confident.

Bruv is awesome so i always bail before he shoots so he does not get perks :rofl

Score is for people who like butter beans and sandles, you can get a good rank if you want, but its boring and means nothing.

i shot down Bruv last week and was all warm inside :)

I find that when i focus on it (which is rare) it suffers the most. When I just go fly and not worry about that it stays around 105-220 a few months back it was like 60 something. I never GV and rarely fly buffs so those suffer the worst

..  On the ranking part. ....

I have been told that in order to keep your score up that you need to have at least one base capture a month.  I have no reason not to believe this, although I have never really looked into it.

 :headscratch:

Thoughts anyone?

I hate tanking and bombing so you'll never see me in those. But I only have time to really fly fighter and even though I don't really try for rank as hard as I could, I've played the game long enough to have a good decent fighter rank, just by the way I fly. A lot of vet players are this way. Some like Latrobe, who is beast mode, is one of the best pilots but sees how many times he can die in a tour. His style is obviously different than most, but rewarding to him.

Really? I've always tried to find that Vsync thing but I'm scared to change it. I don't understand computers.

I still feel like you have turned down my bullet damage and are sabataging my planes bullets hehe  :noid

Whats your ingame name?

Lets clarify what your talking about here. You "feel" you can do no wrong and everything works great while you have a "0" rank, but when the ranks are tallied from them on you cant hit the broad side of a barn nor do anything else right, correct?

You don't have an issue with "where" you are ranked, other than it "seeming" to effect your aim and proficiency in killing in the game, correct?

If these two statements are correct then I think it could be nothing more than adrenalin. When practicing offline, or in a custom arena, or in the TA you are relaxed, calm and concentrating on doing what you plan on. The drones ALWAYS go where you expect, there is NEVER someone else jumping in to pick you, OR steal your kill. You have all the time in the world to calibrate your bomb site and so never miss. Even the first day of flying on the new campaign gives a "freshness" of your flying, but once those numbers come out......

Morph calls it the old man syndrome. When your flying your holding the stick a bit too tight, squeezing the trigger a bit too soon, and not holding it down long enough. Your feet are bouncing all over the pedals trying to line up the shot and dodging 3 friendlies as well as a couple of pickers. Adrenalin kicks in and you are no longer that cool, smooth guy that cant miss while practicing.

I can describe this well because this is me  :P I just joined a new squad and find myself pushing too hard to get that extra kill, or to clear a squadmates six and instead find myself missing more and feeling like a newb all over again. Relax, forget the paranoia that Hitech is out to get you......  unless you ticked him off recently  :devil Concentrate on what your doing and you'll be able to fly as well as that first day of the campaign the whole way through.

The only thing worth a damn about low rank, is the ability to command task groups.
