Italians rock!
« on: August 03, 2015, 04:28:15 PM »
1,000 Italian musicians playing the Foo Fighters' "Learn To Fly" as a call for Dave Grohl and company to come and perform in Cesena, Italy.

To me it sounds like they really don't need the Foo Fighters just more sheet music!

Saw that the other morning...they nailed it!

Saw that Dave Grohl tweeted to them (in Italian) "see you soon"

Very cool

Didn't Weezer do something similar a long time ago?

I tend to forget my two years in Italy taught me a few things.... Tutte le signore erano attraenti. Molti erano semplicemente sfarzosi.

Can they speak English, too, or only imitate the original singing? The four days I spent near Milano taught me that no one regardless of their age would speak any other language than Italian, except for one of our hotel clerks. Ergo, I had to learn to speak Italian, trying to remember each and every word of the pizzeria menus I've seen accompanied with some musical terms.

Many of the younger Italians can speak a little English. One of the issues I heard in this video was that Italians will struggle with English conjunctions. Especially if they have just memorized the lyrics by reading them. If you listen carefully, you'll hear "I'd" spoken (sung) as "Id".

Of course, Italian conjunctions are just as challenging for English speakers. Words such as "cenare", which means to have dinner. The first thing I learned was enough Italian to order a meal. When you order dinner you may say, "Io vorrei un piatto di spaghetti, grazie." This translates to, "I want a plate of spaghetti, thanks". Or you could say "Io voglio una pizza con una bottiglia di birra, per favore", which means "I want a pizza with a bottle of beer, please".

Please excuse any grammatical errors... My never quite fluent Italian is very rusty as I don't get to use it very often these days. We have an invitation to a wedding in Siena in late November. If we decide to go (probably not), I'd have to brush up pretty quick.
My regards,

Widewing
