40th Birthday
« on: August 03, 2015, 09:20:49 PM »
Well I didn't get the all expense paid extravaganza at the cottontail ranch I had secretly hoped for :(

Instead I found out I have some plaque in my coronary artery. A calcium score to be exact of 59, which equals mild/mod risk for cvd.

Given that my mom had to have a coronary/circumflex bypass earlier this summer and emergency carotid later when she was having a stroke I caught...well I guess it's hardly news at all. Phenotypically, we are spitting images in different genders and some minor mix and match traits. Genotypically, it looks like I got my grandmother's genes, who got hers from some English/Scottish bloke who probably died of a heart attack or stroke.

Oh well time to follow the Dr's orders and exercise and eat right...oh wait, carp, I was already doing that for years  :(

I'm sure someone got worse news on their 40th...oh well just a small pity party.

What I really wanted to tell all of you, my cholesterol score is "perfect", so don't believe those that say you can't get plaque, atherosclerosis or that it would be very unlikely to have vascular diseases with great cholesterol. My cholesterol is 164.  HDL is super high and yet...

If you know it's in the genes, get yourself a check up before you check out someday without warning.

Meh. 40 was the start of my best physical fitness years. By age 50 I finally broke the plateau of the bench press '315' club.
For some reason, turning 30 was much harder than any of the other years.
We've been searching for the Fountain of Youth for centuries and you know what? It's been under our noses the whole time. It's called "exercise".

Happy birthday, from a 55 year old that can still bench 315 (actually got up to 350 at age 52) and shock the crap out of the young bloods in the gym. :) Hope my shoulders keep holding out! They're my weak point!

On the outside, physically I look like I did in HS and College. I have a six pack again, more like an 8 pack and I'm ready to go catch some 200# tuna this next week. I probably could bench what I did in HS, idk, I'm not paying attention to stuff like that.

I think you missed my point, the only reason I found out I have some plaque is I was discussing it with my moms Dr's My Dr had said you shouldn't have anything to worry about with perfect cholesterol, my mom's cardiologist disagreed. So we did the calcium score...low and behold.

It doesn't matter what you look like on the outside. People in gyms drop dead everyday.

Probably true, at 30 I was drinking my life away.

Today most my things are in order; there of course was a reason, but we'll not bother on such a wonderful day...it's less than 110 in August :)

Hey kid! Forty that's nothing. Wait until you're fifty. There's lot of clichés around forty. Life begins at etc! At fifty there's no glib sayings. No one says it. But life begins to end at fifty. So enjoy these ten years.

Age fifty five, I'm on three tablets a day to keep me alive, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Yes it's all genetic. I didn't smoke and barely drank when I was forty. I only really starting drinking after the damm Doctor put me on medication. Yes that's right an Irishman who didn't drink!

Yes get yourself checked if if runs in the family. That's all that counts.

I'm 41 and still get carded for beer. Makes my day every time.

Even though she recognizes me, one lady asks for it every time because I told her it made my day the first time she did it. Good stuff, life is.

Hey hey Zoney, thanks for the kind offer. I don't know anything about motorcycles, much less how to ride one without killing myself.

I did  have a scooter when I was 16, I nearly died/severely injured several times, it's probably best I stay away from those.

I have been wanting to talk to someone about selling a quad I have though, does your store have a quad guy? I'm thinking of getting it ready for sale by a month before the Thanksgiving dunes trips.
