Every time I click delete, the stupid pop-up has to ask me if I want to delete, when of course I want to delete it - I PRESSED DELETE:furious

Please help me keep my blood pressure in check.  :old:

Right click on Recycle Bin.
Select Properties.
Uncheck  "Display delete confirmation dialog"

That should do it.

I don't know if that would also work for the Shift+Delete feature, which will immediately delete a file instead of moving it to the Recycle Bin.

For most users it's much safer to have a warning for every task. People tend to accidentally click and drag items, sometimes losing entire main folders into some sub-folder. I often find myself looking at someone's profile just because of painting some message blue and accidentally clicking the author's name. Why am I painting parts of the text I'm reading? I don't know, it seems to help understanding the text, possibly it's related to drawing meaningless squares while listening to something that should be memorized.

I cannot count the number of times I've had users call me in panic, desperate to recover something they had deleted by mistake.

You still need to follow Bizman's advice in order to get rid of the "are you sure" query when using shift+delete.  I was certain it bypassed this is well, but it's been years since I unchecked that box Biz recommended, so I went back and turned it on - still get query with shift.

Turning that off nearly cost me a job years ago. And it has saved me over the years from deleting work I accidental chose. I still meet old ferts who long for the days of DOS and bulk deletes. And most of them had some favorite delete recovery utility because they all screwed up eventually.

And they all felt the same way as the OP.......

I'd say I'm on the more advanced side of computer use and experience. That's not an annoying nag-ware pop-up. It's there because smart people saw a need for it and put it in. It's a necesarry tool because you never know when a mouse will spaz out or when a cat will jump on your keyboard and mash the "delete" key when you're trying to move stuff. It's a safeguard, and if you didn't know that you COULD disable it, I'd take that as a sign that you may in fact NEED it on. Even the IT people I know leave that on... and for good reason.

Ouch! Now I almost feel bad about sharing that piece of information. Almost.

Congrats on your computer experience and thanks for the condescension.  :aok

The reason I forgot how to do it is simply because it's been years since installing Windows and a fresh re-install lost that setting.  Also, I have never unintentionally deleted anything in many clueless years of computer ignorance.  But in the off chance that something does get mistakenly deleted, it's not too tasking to retrieve it from the recycle bin.  Make sure you pass that on to the smart people.  Thanks.

The actual reason you find yourself drawing those little square boxes, is because you're unconscious is trying to give/show you a sign of feeling trapped/closed in

just a FYI

@ Caldera: Your point about retrieving accidentally deleted files from the Recycle Bin is valid to a point.

There's two caveats, though, that I can think of - with fear. The first one is to use Shift+delete, a feature I use a lot. That will bypass the Recycle Bin, as has already been said. The other scenario is deleting a file that's too big for the Recycle Bin, in which case there should appear a warning about the size and a question about directly deleting the huge file. Think about missing that warning and accidentally deleting your entire Windows folder... May this be a warning to those who may not realize the risks of disabling Windows features just because that's doable.

Talk about condescending....

Hey, do what you want. No skin off my nose. I was trying to offer a warning. You respond with hubris. So be it. I don't care. Have fun.
