Someone Failed Geography...
« on: August 13, 2015, 10:25:47 PM »
So, I'm finally in a position to build a new rig and ordered my CPU from New Egg. It's shipping from Chicago to St. Louis, so I figure, "Awesome! It'll be here in no time!"

Yyyyyeah. They're shipping from Chicago to St. Louis by way of KANSAS @#$%ING CITY. It's only turning a three hundred mile delivery into a 750 mile one.

Via the USPS?

Yeah, looks like it. The REALLY annoying thing is they're being INCREDIBLY slow to update their systems; last word I got from them was about 8:30pm YESTERDAY (it's in St. Louis). Hoping it gets delivered tomorrow and I don't have to wait for Monday. My RAM arrived today but was scheduled for delivery tomorrow, and it shipped a day before the CPU.

Had more bad experiences with USPS than anyone else myself. Best one for me would be UPS, any time I order from amazon (newegg too maybe, can't remember) it ships UPS and the thing always arrives at least a day before the earliest it says it should be here. Always. Every stinking time lol. Only ever had one problem with them when they delivered something of mine to a same-numbered trailer in a similar looking lot across the road. They didn't do much to help me find out where it went but I figured it out at the end of the day.

I'll say one thing though, post workers are really overworked, and that's probably why they didn't do too much to help me that one time.

Unfortunately, New Egg has no delivery options between EggSaver and 2-day express. So it's either Free Delivery, or 40 bucks. There needs to be another option in there.

Its not by chance going by UPS or fedex smartpost is it? Some of those seems like it hits their own sorting centers before going to the usps office

Sounds about right for the USPS ,  there's a town 5 miles away from my town I mailed a bill off but it has to go to Portland Oregon which is a hundred sixty three miles away to be sorted, then sent back to the other town which is only 5 miles away. :bhead

CPU went by UPS and transferred to the USPS office in Hazelwood (~20mins away, straight shot up I-170), RAM/CPU Cooler went by FedEx Smartpost. RAM shipped a day before and arrived this afternoon, but wasn't due until tomorrow. I'm hopeful that since the CPU arrived in St. Louis around 8:30pm Thursday night that it's going to be delivered tomorrow (*looks at clock* I mean today).

Not sure if it is still so but if I mailed a letter in Ottawa to go to Gatineau, across the river from Ottawa, it went to Montreal first and then to Gatineau. A 240mi round trip.

A lot of shipping works that way.  If you ship a package overnight from New York, NY to Newark, NJ using FedEx it will be flown from New York to Memphis, TN and then to Newark.

I've seen them fail state abbreviations, too. Apparently there are some out there who think "AR" stands for Arizona...

Doesn't help that there is in fact an Arizona town with the same name as my hometown here in ARkansas.

CPU has arrived so all is right with the world. Doesn't make it any less silly.
