FRAME 3 FLEET BATTLE - PLEASE READ
« on: August 16, 2015, 10:11:41 PM »
In Frame 3 we will be having a fleet battle. It will be 3 Fleet vs 3 Fleet Battle with unlimited PT Boats. It will not be scored into the Final Frame Scores.

At T+60, these fleets will be available for command. PT Boats will be available from all 6 Fleets. Fleets may not leave 6, 1 Grid. Rockets for PT Boats will be disabled.

Good Luck All!

There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

more likely he was just wary of tripping the bbs word filter, and i doubt he would fall into the age group you consider as "this generation"; but hey, what kind of bbs thread would it be if there weren't people griping about something insubstantial to the original topic; am i right?  :D

I do have a question for Nef regarding the fleet battle though. Lets assume somebody is patient enough to fly all the way over to the fleet battle, and said pilot is also crazy enough to consider diving into what will probably be a large, concentrated mass of water wirblewinds for some strafing runs. any rules against this?; because i might have the right mix of patient and crazy this Friday to get an overhead view of this battle (through my gun sight of course) :airplane:

The real problem is anyone should feel like they can come to this forum and make a wish without being treated in a derogatory manner.  The only discussion should be centered around whether it would work, or how it would work and so on always in a respectful manner.

I'm thinkin' more like pulling the TFs within gun range and slugging it out with the battleships, in adition to the PT boats.

Torpedoes were underwater satchel charge-type mines, of massive explosive power. They were stationary, like barrage balloon cables, and could definitely sink ships.

The saying comes from an order to charge into a fight mindlessly. Perhaps the connotation was "bravely" at the time, but it was foolish tactics. The order was given to move into a mined area at full speed. The helmsman or some such office on deck replied, "But sir, the torpedoes!" and the response was "DAMN the torpedoes! FULL SPEED AHEAD!"

So, as you can see it's taken out of context when people relate it to WW2 "fish" torpedoes. These were mines, and were well before WW2 and U-boats came around.

I have a squadron of Foo Fighters at my disposal. Any encroachment on the fleets and they will beam you right back to the tower.  :police:

Yes.  It is several sectors from the nearest active base,  but it will still be off limits for all aircraft.

in response to krusty(just because I have too!):

On August 5, 1864, Farragut won a great victory in the Battle of Mobile Bay. Mobile, Alabama, was then the Confederacy's last major open port on the Gulf of Mexico. The bay was heavily mined (tethered naval mines were then known as "torpedoes").[25] Farragut ordered his fleet to charge the bay. When the monitor USS Tecumseh struck a mine and sank, the others began to pull back.

Admiral David Farragut and General Gordon Granger:
Farragut could see the ships pulling back from his high perch, where he was lashed to the rigging of his flagship, USS Hartford. "What's the trouble?", he shouted through a trumpet to USS Brooklyn. "Torpedoes", was the shouted reply. "Damn the torpedoes.", said Farragut, "Four bells, Captain Drayton, go ahead. Jouett, full speed."[26][27] The bulk of the fleet succeeded in entering the bay. Farragut triumphed over the opposition of heavy batteries in Fort Morgan and Fort Gaines to defeat the squadron of Admiral Franklin Buchanan.

On December 21, 1864, Lincoln promoted Farragut to vice admiral.

Both these men had fairly distinguished careers, but get mentioned in an awesome speech and the Navy will name a destroyer after you.
