Control Tip
« on: August 19, 2015, 02:24:46 PM »
If you are in a later model cockpit watch the virtual pedals and stick move as you move your controller or look at your control surfaces moving. Notice that you can move faster than the virtual controls. If you reverse a full deflection quickly the virtual controls don't go to full deflection before they reverse. This means you can't get virtual full deflection with a fast reversal movement but you can set off the "moving stick too fast" message.

If you learn to stay within the movement speed limits of the virtual controls you will have a better response from the airframe. Flailing the stick is less effective than deliberate movement.

That's a very good tip!

For what it's worth, a couple of times I've been allowed to try flying an ultra light plane under guidance. The stick and pedal movements needed are very small and the controllers are stiff in flight. Alike warbirds, there's just wires between the controller and the surface, maybe assisted by some pulleys. As I've read, there's no man stron enough to pull the stick if the diving speed of a 109 was too high...

Learning to proportion the visual movement with the low resistance of our plastic controllers is what would make us all better pilots.
