What is the latest greatest joystick?

It has been a few years since I played. The last stick I got back in 12 or 13 , was a CH stick with Hall sensors. I didn't really like it. I prefer the stick to actually move.

So what is the best stick that is supported by the game?

CH never made a force sensing stick and if they did it wouldn't use Hall sensors. You may be thinking of the Saitek X65.

All the sticks from major manufacturers have their pros and cons.

I'm using the X-55 now and I really like it!  Even if you don t like the stick, the throttle is enough to make it worth the money!

Just FYI.  Any USB connected stick will work with Aces High.

You're probably confusing the Thrustmaster Cougar (that could be modified with Hall sensors) with CH. CH only uses Hall sensors on their OEM products and not their commercial consumer joysticks (Fighterstick, Combat Stick, etc.), which use regular analog potentiometers.

Maybe my question should be , which of the traditional potentiometer sticks is best?

I remember using them up quickly , and having to go to Hall sensors , but my son and I prefer the traditional movement.

Quite honestly, it's a matter of personal preference.  I personally recommend CH gear, I've been using CH gear for 20 years+ and have never had an issue with the gear.  However, I am replacing my CH Pro Pedals with a set of MFG Crosswind pedals.



Other people swear by Saitek and others by Thrustmaster.  It pays to do a little research to find the stick that best fits your playing style and feel as you're going to be using these controllers for a few years.

The Hall sensor is a replacement for a potentiometer, it requires movement of the stick to work. What you have in your picture is a force sensing strain gauge which is also what the X-65 uses. Hall sensors are superior to potentiometers. Strain gauges are completely different.

The Cougar suffered from cheap metal in the gimbal so now the Warthog uses plastic. 

For the best stick see my original answer. Currently I'm using a center-mounted extended offset Warthog handle on custom gimbals in a Cougar base with Hall sensors.  Any decent joystick will work, some people fly well with a mouse.  If the VKB is too pricey I'd look at the X-55 Whiskey recommended.

Not to expensive, twisty stick if you need that, uses hall sensors and is very accurate. Brother in law and father both have this stick and love it. Brother in laws is over a year old and gets a good work out in AH (MARK4)

I'm just getting back into the game and bought the cheapest stick (and the only one available locally) to use until I figure out what the kewl kids use. It's a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro and it works surprisingly well for a <$30 stick with twisty. I use it with my old CH pedals. I have flown real T-6's and need some resistance to make the controls feel more real and the Logitech is pretty good in this regard. Back in the day I had to take my old CH stick apart and put heavy duty rubber bands in to supplement the sissy springs. Some research shows the X 55 to be pretty good for the money once they work out some teething problems in QC.

I have both the thrustmaster warthog and the x55 Rhino... I love the warthog due to the all metal construction and I like the throttle on the x55 for its multitude of rotary's that the Warthog fell short on. All in all i just might change out the x55 throttle for the thrustmaster throttle. Just to see how it fits...LOL

My first stick was a Logitech extreme 3D pro. Even tho it was my first feel of a joystick it felt tacky and unrealistic. Now I have a CH combat stick and that is one great stick. The input movements of the Logitech is just unreal lol. I will never go back to that stick. I recommend CH products or that trustmaster Hotas stick. I heard the x52 is a good stick also.
