This thread, historically, has been titled variously as "Detune Range Channel" or "STHU" or "ad nauseum".
I just reviewed one thread from 2014. In it, good points were made both pro and con.
In the primary arenas:
The best recommendation from the 2014 thread was brevity. Not the GI Joe code words, but the self-control part. Keep the chatter down to only what is needed as it pertains to the battle at hand. If you want to talk about your crate engine...bring it to the bulletin board. I'd love to read about it here.
In Special Events:
Especially in FSO - A little tart (sometimes gross) banter is a tradition during climb out. It gets real business-like and quiet when a merge is right around the corner. My squadron has been out-bantered on many occasions. I didn't think that was possible!
So this is just a reminder about what we (all of us) already know. Stay focused on your own game and don't distract your teammates is good advice, I think. Like a lot of people, I also need a reminder like this.
The practical matter is about the comm buffer. If it gets filled up with BS, you will surely hear the "Check Six" sent to you only after you are already in the tower wondering how you got there.
