A "marginal" rating is the most common.... One would expect better from a full-sized truck. However, the longer crew cab did get a "good" rating.

Heck, the Jeep Wrangler got a "good" rating. There is a caveat to that rating... If it was a base Wrangler, with the 15" wheels and 29" tires, it only got a "marginal" rating. It seems that the much bigger 17" and 18" optional wheels and much wider 32" tall tires make a significant difference, by absorbing more energy. This is a big help along with those snap-off plastic fenders that just tear away and don't transmit the crash shock to the vehicle.

Well...  to their defense, they say it's built Ford tough so marginal is pretty close to the mark.

The 40mph test has the majority of the vehicles being marginal.   But the Ram and Silverado are no where near the F150.  So it pretty much eliminates rabid's contribution to this thread.

Still the best selling vehicle in USA/Canada; 56,318 sold here in Canada in first half of 2015, over 300 units /day; but sales are going to drop here, many are used by oilfield contractors and the business is slow;

  357,180 sold in US, same period first half of 2015;  aprox 2000 sold/day    :rock

You'll notice that test was done against a stationary hard object.  Notice the metal bumper, now lets say some one in ...oh I don't know, a Prius perhaps, crosses the line and tags me.  I'll side with the truck any day.

You're relatively new to NHTSA and IIHS tests aren't you?  :O

Ford could've done a lot better in the aesthetics department. What an ugly front end.

Aesthetics of trucks are like women, a personal opinion of what beauty is. I think Dodge are the most gawd aweful front ends ever made but my boss (a 5'6" Irishman) would prefer to bang his Dodge rather than his wife.  :devil

Always 40MPH.  Last I noted, the norm is AT LEAST 30MPH, not 20MPH.  I guess a lot of these take place in school zones. :noid

So, what you're saying is that in the film, the Stationary Hard Object wasn't sitting still and the truck ran into it?  From what my uneducated eyes saw, the truck drove into an object.  Said object was sitting there (stationary) and didn't even dent (hard).   :O

New to tests?  Nope.  Just attempting to make a humorous point about measured and controlled testing and standardized ratings against the real world condition of a truck vs prius.  I can see how you missed that ;)

Yes indeed, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  This is the first Ford truck front end I've liked since they left that big flat nosed thing in 91.  2005 was nice but looked awfully soft for a truck.  I like that they finally left the massive headlight assembly. It's still big but with the cut out, I think it just looks amazing.  First year I've wanted a new truck in a long, long time.  Don't like the Dodge line at all, Chevys just do not do it for me.  This one just jumped out and said Yep, time for a new truck.
