Anybody Live In New Mexico Willing to Help A Transplant?
« on: September 08, 2015, 02:32:50 PM »
I know that this is not the typical kind of post that you expect to find here on AH, but I am desperately looking for anyone that lives in the Albuquerque area or Southern New Mexico that might be willing to help out a transplant.

Having lived in Albuquerque for many years and then moving to Pennsylvania, I am trying to find out if someone in the area would be willing to get their hands on Hatch green and red chili and ship it to me all at my expense? You have no idea what it's like to have the chili and then not have it. My wife had family that would ship on occasion, but that is no longer an option so I a trying to find someone who would be willing to do this once a year.

We have checked out a couple of places on-line, but their prices seem awfully high and then add shipping to drive the cost even higher.

Since the season is about over, if anyone is willing to find out what a bag of un-roasted Hatch green chili is going for as well as the weight, I would really appreciate it. And if you have Paypal, that would make making payment easier.

If anyone is willing, you can contact me thru my personal email:   vancevp at zoominternet.net

Thanks in advance

Vance, the Wegmans by my house in NJ had a huge promotion of Hatch chili peppers this past weekend.  They were roasting them in the big drum and grilling corn on the cob for 2 days straight.  If you're in PA, there should be a Wegmans nearby.  If not, I can run over to the store and pick some up and meet you in PA.  I'm in PA on business a couple times a month.

Next Hatch chili event in NJ is in Cherry Hill this weekend.  Across the river from Philly.

Yankee67 . . . unfortunately I live about 30 minutes north of Pittsburgh so I am no where close to you in Jersey. I appreciate your info and offer, but we had a guy ship us a box of green chile a few years ago that he claimed was from Hatch, NM and it was the worse chile we have ever tasted. Also, if Wegman's is roasting the chile, that won't do us much good either. I needs to be frozen right away or it will go bad. That is the reason I am looking for un-roasted chile from Hatch, NM. That is the chile we grew up on.

Again, I really appreciate your offer, but I got to be 110% sure that it is specifically Hatch green chile or the wife is going to have my nuts in a vice.

Hope you understand   :-)

Maybe this will help

I'm in PA as well..... But a Maine transplant (born there moved down here when I was eight)  spent my summers there until I was about 21 and went off to college .     I can't find anyone in the state to cook a lobster to save their life LOL.......and if I go to one more restaurant that try's to pass off what they make and call it a lobster roll,  I'm going to climb a tower with my rifle      :furious

I hear ya . . .

Nothing beats the taste of authentic Hatch green chile.

and we have already checked out the link you provided and unless someone lives out there and is willing to price and ship, that will be the route we will have to go.

PA sucks when it comes to GOOD food! I love a good lobster, but I'm not even going to waste my time looking for any place that knows how to cook it. It's the same thing with GOOD barbecue. So I now have 3 smokers and a grill and I am learning to smoke meats the way I like it.   LOL

Vance, if I buy 5 pounds fresh this week, will you take them?  Let me know what size order you want.  I stopped by produce about 45 min ago and the fresh Hatch chilis were still there.  In the white Hatch boxes.

Opening this thread, I never expected to see this reference to one of my personal addictions.

I grew up in El Paso, Texas and now live in Germany, so I feel your pain acutely.

Fortunately - my wife is a master gardner and with some packets of seeds from Amazon (certified Hatch chiles), we now have chile rellenos the way they are supposed to be right here in Munich, Germany!

Because you are in the wrong part of PA.  Southeastern PA is dense with many great restaurants and probably the only place where you can get a real honest to goodness cheesesteak.  I just had a very tasty one with provolone and fried onions, washed down with a nice summer ale.  As for great sandwiches, no other region in the USA has better.

Butterscotch Krimpets - especially chilled in the fridge are sugary heaven.
