Virus Protection Advice Request
« on: September 18, 2015, 01:23:16 PM »
New computer.  VERY nice system.

Used windows defender in the beginning...

Now when I try to go to the internet, I am getting spammed and pop up ads (no...   no porn did this).  VERY annoying.

Looking for recommendations on anti virus programs I could use that are okay with AH.

I usually turn off all protections to run AH without distractions or high memory usage.  I noticed google chrome may have caused some issues.

I am using Windows 8.1 and am afraid to upgrade to 10 for now.

What say y'all?

Thanks!

I'm using Avira Pro.  I used Avira freebie for years with no troubles with any game, including AH.

I hate the overheads it uses but it is kinder than others out there.

I use Avast Free, which has good ratings, along with Malwarebytes, and Glary's utilities for clean-up.

It's actually not a question of having a good anti-virus program in your case. You seem to have caught a bunch of "potentially unwanted programs" into your machine. Try Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware for getting rid of them. For an even more thorough scan, use Eset's Online scanner. When using them, look at the options! In Malwarebytes', check the box for Rootkits. In Eset, check the potentially unwanted/dangerous in the Advanced section.

As for what would be the "best" anti-virus, Eset seems to have the least effect to games.

I use ESET Smart Security (http://www.eset.com/us/).  It has a very low resource footprint and very gamer friendly.
