FSX Steam edition - stuff I need...
« on: September 17, 2015, 10:28:38 AM »
Just downloaded FSX From Steam...  What do I absolutely have to have to make this game look good?

Scenery,  effects etc?
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

Since it is quite old I'm not sure what is readily available that was when it first came out. I'd definitely get an AI program because the default AI sucks. I used skAI for a long time, but there are quite a few out there. IMO AI is a must and most decent programs have real-world liveries with real routes, once you spawn in and whatnot you might face actual traffic congestion at JFK, LAX and other large airports.

It really depends if you want to put some (more) money into the game. There are a lot of payware addons that make the game look gorgeous. I'd check out simviation so you can download some free stuff such as airport graphics, maybe some lighting stuff, different planes and liveries. Some payware addons have multiple airport graphical updates as well as general area scenery (NYC, LA) that the base version of FSX does not have.

I would hope that the steam version allows you to install addons like normal.

It does,  I've been out of Flight Simulator for a loooooong time.  This might sound cliche,  but Ive started flight lessons and I'm looking more into GA stuff now to get some computer time.

Too bad Kippy was PNGed, he'd know the perfect stuff for you. He had hella realistic graphics and realistic flying, fully interactive cockpits it's crazy. Perhaps I could ask him what he's got again if you like and I'll report back.

That'd be great. Thanks!

Hey Nef,

Check out FroogleSim on You Tube.  I subscribed.  He's about as deep into GA and AirLiner (sim) Ops as anybody out there.  He has a weekly and there's tons of archive stuff.  I've never tried to email him, but he seems pretty approachable (for an Englishman living in Orlando).  Just kidding, Zack.

Good on you for working on the ticket.

Nef, get yourself a copy of fspassengers.  Not only does it give you a financial model to make things more interesting but each flight has a random failure chance based on the repair and servicing state of the aircraft.  These can range from an electrical short in flight solved by turning nav lights off to bird strike and engine flameout on takeoff.  Makes things very interesting.
