Enabling Advanced Terrain Causes Everything to Go White
« on: September 19, 2015, 05:03:57 PM »
I feel like OPERATION BODENPLATTE when enabling Advanced Terrain on my laptop.   Admittedly it is an older rig but is there a setting I am missing or did I perhaps not download the hi-res pack?

Running an AMD Radeon 1250 (don't laugh--this is my Africa rig).

GPU-Z is free and it will tell you a lot about your video chip.

http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/2524/techpowerup-gpu-z-v0-8-5/

CPUID is free and will give CPU in depth info.

http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html

AH2 is CPU intensive while the capabilities of the GPU still matter. With a screen capture from both utilities and assessment of your question will work out better. Many players use laptops for AH2 because it is not Shader intensive.

What is Advanced Terrain?  If you mean the Alpha version you should post in the Alpha forum.

It looks like you should be running minimal settings with AH2 and may not be able to run the Alpha on that notebook.

Advanced Terrain Features in graphics.

Was afraid of this.   Time to invest in something new I guess...

Alpha won't run either.   Only shows the launch screen with the keyboard clip.  No options.   Can't select anything.  Darn.

Well, at least it works with AH2.   Maybe I can get through my next Africa rotation and dogfight until I can buy something better.    :salute

OK. That's the graphic details advanced tab. I wasn't sure what you meant.

You can look at Waffle's tips in this forum to get the most performance out of your hardware.

Your graphics card has 256 Mb of memory which is the current minimum requirement. There's other things, too, that cut the performance, but in this case they're irrelevant. The fact is, your card can theoretically run AH2 with everything disabled. You mentioned the possibility of not having downloaded the HiRes pack. With your card there's no use downloading it, you simply can't use it. Everything disabled or down to the minimums is your only choice with that setup.

As for AH3, the memory minimum is at least double to yours which explains your experience with that.

AH3 will not run on that card due to lack of video memory.  Right now the Alpha minimum, with everything disabled, requires a video card with 512MB of dedicated video RAM.

AH2 should run, but you will need to set the "Maximum Texture Size" to 256 and disable all advanced graphic options.

Copy that.   Thanks everyone.   This game is the only reason I bother upgrading my hardware.  Lol!
