This Ki-43 was part of the 47th Fighter Group's third squadron. Based near Tokyo in early 1944 it had white home defence bands painted over its battered field-applied green camouflage. The 47th was formed in 1942 with a mixture of Ki-43s and Ki-44s for the defence of the home islands. In January 1945 these began to be replaced with Ki-84s.
