logitech extreme 3d pro......HELP!

Yes, I know many consider it junk.  Getting that out of the way here is my issue.  The ONLY stick I ever used here was my Saitek Av8r.  It fought the virtual skies for close to eight years and recently, put it to pasture.  I rushed out and bought the only stick I could find, the logitech.

It is killing me! Ive never been the greatest stick, but had reached the point where I could give a good fight.  I love the A5 and flew it 90 percent of the time.  I can't now.  The specific issue I am having is im heavy handed with rudder.  It's not intentional, but it is killing my gunnery.  Being parked D250 behind someone and hitting just air is nerve racking.  Ive played with the scaling,deadband,dampering etc...if anything I am making it worse.  Never really cared about K/D.  However, comparing this tour to past tours is very telling.  I get it to either to "loose" or to "tight".  I cant find the sweet spot.  Any help??

I don't consider the 3D Pro junk.  I used one for quite a few years.   
I would stick with the dampening.  Maybe just a touch of dead-band, since it is a twisty.
It don't take much adjustment, but just a little to ease the heaviness of the hand.

A new stick always require some time of adjustment in the beginning. I used my 3d pro along with pedals and x52 throttle and it works pefect. I dont like the "rubber band" sensitivity that is the standard. (feels like there are rubber bands connecting stick and control surfaces). So I had full scaling all over, a very small dead band and maybe 20% dampening.

I use the same one. I've found that over time, subtle adjustments to the dampening scale (especially for rudder), dead band (for jittery signs of aging), and the scaling (it helps with the jitters and sporadic inputs).

Trial and error is the only way to go on this one.

There are days when I am sure it's the joystick... then I remember, i'm not that good.

That's what I'm using right now and it works great except when I'm trying to shoot my nose is like 

This is the second twisty I've tried. I have a few more sticks to try yet and pedals to try but I'll try to find out where I can dampen it..before I go insane and throw it out the window. I even considered calibrating it without rudder input 

pretty close to SirNuke's advice.

So for the game it has calibrate joystick. you like stir then twist and then throttle and click ok.
Where are the rest of the adjustments at? dampening?

In the controller setup click the advanced tab. For starters set default scaling for pitch and rudder, no scaling on roll. Use no damping, it makes the control mushy, use the minimum deadband that keeps the autopilot on. 

If you are trimmed for your speed you may be crossing the center point of the stick when adjusting your fire, if you have dead band it will interfere with smoothness. Try trimming nose down so you can adjust the nose position without crossing a dead spot.

I agree that the dampening gave the plane a mushy feel.
I did however, use a good bit of dead-band.  That helped keep the rudder from kicking in while
doing a lot of pitching and banking.

Good point. I should have mentioned deadband is good for the rudder, especially if you have a twisty stick.

The advanced stick video is on hold until we get AH3 all figured out as all the videos are going to have to be redone for AH3.
