Sturmtiger
« on: November 16, 2015, 04:17:00 PM »
Hello there. I would like to see the Sturmtiger added to AH here. While it was a mainly infantry support vehicle, I think I've thought of a few ways to make it a viable vehicle for use in AH.

A few Specs -
 Sturmmörserwagen 606/4 mit 38 cm RW 61

Armor: 150mm at the front with a 47 degree sloping. Making it a very well armored vehicle compared to what we currently have in AH.

Gun: A 380mm RW 61 Rocket Launcher L/5.4. Usually carrying only 14 rounds, but they are truly devastating projectiles.

Speed: 40 km/h (25 mph), so not that slow compared to say a firefly.

While there were only 19 produced, they saw heavy action in battles such as the Bulge and the Battle of the Reichswald.

Making it work in AH
While it was mainly an infantry support vehicle, you could put the 380mm rocket launcher to good use. While we do have rocket artillery already in game in the form of the Sdkfz, the rockets are near impossible to aim correctly. (well, at least from my experience)

The 380mm rockets were an absolutely devastating weapon. With a total rocket weight of almost 900 lbs each, and a range of almost 6000 meters, this could be a great artillery piece if used correctly. While you only carry a small amount of ammunition, a person who knows how to use the vehicle correctly could all but annihilate an airfield/vbase. With each rocket being equal to somewhat around 900lbs of explosives (?)idk - it could take only a few rockets to drop a base.

Balancing
The fact that the Sturmtiger has devastating rockets is a bit overpowered, however, it only carries 14 of them. AND, it would have a slow reload, maybe a 10 to 15 second reload, and it would take a lot of practice to use one correctly. Firing on a single vehicle hanger from 6k away wouldnt be that easy I imagine.

It could be perked the same as the Tiger I, seeing that it is basically a Tiger with a giant rocket launcher taped to it. Or, it could not be perked, because like the Sdkfz, aiming the rockets will take a ton of practice.

I don't know, just throwing out an idea or two.

Thanks Bustr. But just look at the size of that shell. Imagine that raining down onto your puny T-34, terrifying.

You might want to watch this video on YouTube.

And this video includes footage of a Stuka dropping 2 x 1k eggs, and 1 4k egg (two different Stukas) plus the Sturmtiger actually firing (Warsaw ghetto).

There was at least one Sturmtiger is supposed to have been at Normandy according to texts you can buy on action there. However, not a lot is known about their action if any.

Problem is that huge guns and long range fire are pretty useless when you have no indirect fire sight.  It would find a use about a week before the newness wore off and it became a hanger queen.

I bet that it would see use in shelling the towns. I'd be like using the rockets on the M4 or German halftrack.

The B29 suffers from mission length and perk issues. Why fly a boring long duration mission when you can do the same mission with another less expensive aircraft?

so why use the sturmtiger when you can choose many other tanks that have more rounds and can go faster?

Because with far fewer shots it can take down things. You should be able to figure these things out on your own. Besides, it's not any slower than an M4, or Tiger.
