New computer, I cheated. No build this time
« on: November 28, 2015, 12:21:18 PM »
I didn't want to wait. So I went to the store and bought one.

My old computer was just one issue after another. I finally had enough. Ironically, after I bought the new one I came to realize it's probably the power supply. Still though I'm excited and will have the new one loaded up this afternoon! It's an I-5, 3.2 ghz with a Nvidia GTX 9600. Has an SSD drive as well. That's a first for me.

Sabot.

So, where's the link?

I've had the computer now for a couple of weeks. What a difference in game play. Between the new stick and the computer it has been so much more fun.

The operating system resides on an SSD and the game on a regular hard drive. This thing boots in seconds. I'm not spending an enormous amount of time recalibrating and then falling out of the sky for no apparent reason.

My hit percentage has almost doubled to 8%. Not great but better than 4%.

Nothing wrong with 8%, it's amazing what improved equipment can do isn't it.  Glad you're happy, you'll be ready for the new version now too.

Skuzzy has made specific mention regarding the frequent small read/writes AH does, and how that may not be all that great for your SSD drives.  I've got an older one, my first Samsung 830 128gb drive, which I don't care about frying, and I run AH on that, but otherwise I'd do the same as you and run it on a regular spinner drive.  More than fast enough IMO.  Boot times from a spinner drive to SSD when set up for a fast boot is pretty shocking the first time you see it.  I just saw Win10 booted from a new Samsung m.2 950 on Monday this week - about the same jump in speed again, wow.

Thanks Gman! This is my first purchased computer since 2001. Also my first new keyboard and mouse since 2001.
