For Older Drag Racing Fans

 In 2014 I had opportunity to attend the Detroit Autorama.  This is where the Riddler is awarded.  Also in 2014 Dodge was celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the birth of the legendary HEMI.  Of course I had my camera with me and I took a picture of my drag racing heros of the 60s'.



This is the 50th anniversary placard for the HEMI.  I had the good fortune to meet the original Ramchargers team, the driver of the MoTown Missile and the members of the Golden Commando team that ran HEMI Plymouths.  They autographed my placard.  The first four on the left are original members of the Ramchargers (they campaigned the candy striped Dodge).  Then, 5th from left is Al Adam driver of the Motown Missile, and to his left the Golden Commando Drag Team.  All were great guys and autographed my placard.  One of the Ramchargers asked where I got my Dodge racing jacket, he liked it.  Anyway, even though I'm old and gray it was a treat meeting these men that I cheered for way back in the 60s.
Made my day!

I remember when Don Garlits broke the 200 mph barrier, and his useful articles on how an engine works in Hot Rod magazine.

Had a client who was set on fire when his gas tank broke loose because the bolts holding it to the frame weren't the proper sort.

Makes me feel old.  Met a guy who said he'd been to a classic racing show and had met the pioneers.  One of them was Jim Hall.  I thought:  "Pioneers?  Classic?  WTF?"

Sounds like you had one helluva great time, hajo!

What year is your srt? Local Dodge Dealer has a brand 2014 new srt8 badged 392hemi on the front quarter fenders , has all options w/6 sod manual 485HP/470ftpds torque.... 18 speaker sound system and all...originally asking was $47,980.00....with less than 15 miles on it, they have offered it to me near $30,000.00.....I'm still trying to windle them lower if possible....damn thing soon be three years old....and never been drove...

TC my SRT is a 12.  Has all the buttons and whistles and a 6.4 392 cu. in HEMI (Apache Heads same as on the Hellcat that is a 6.2).  I have 5900 miles on it and it is a 6 speed also.
It has a 3.92 rear end and staggered tires.  245s in front 255s in back.  Gives the car an old school rake higher back to lower front.  30K isn't a bad deal.....but I'd get them down a bit.  It is a beast for a street car.  Imagine getting 480HP with a 392 cu. in. engine.  Back in our day getting 450HP out of a 426 was fantastic!

Heh, I got a small block 350 4 bolt splayed....bored 70 over 12.5:1 forged crank, all the goodies, too much to type on my dumbphone... 658 lift can, dyno'ed out at 587 HP / 524 torque....

Took it out of my old 66 factory 396 caprice, been waiting to put it in my Dad's 88 Chevy shortbed, which still looking like brand new and has just tripped the 100K miles mark..

I want to go Pro street on it before he passes....hope I get to fulfill his dream....

Dad use to Drag Race a 64 sport Fury 426 wedge/4 speed...then a1968&1969 Plymouth roadrunners with hopped up 440's in them.....he also got alot of help from Maurice Petty back in the 60's and early 70's...good times...

I grew up around Ronnie Sox and Martin....remember them?

Ronnie could really shift a 4 speed down the 1/4....
