One of the biggest problems I have with tanks and the primary reason I use the Tiger is because the barrel on all the other tanks (possible exception being the Panzer) moves too quickly and they are all too sensitive to movement. This is probably because I have tuned the controls on my airplanes the way I did but I thought one of our vehicle guys would have noticed the same thing but no one ever said much other than the problem existed.

Then someone asked about how to use a different joystick for gunning on a bomber and a light came on for me. So here is how I fixed the problem...

Hitech has setup the game so that aircraft start in mode 1 and vehicles start in mode 2. This used to bug the heck out of me because GVs would always be started in mode 2 and when I would move my view hat to see around me I would always be looking up first (for those of you that dont know I have the hat setup in primary mode as horizontal views and in secondary mode as up views). Hitech also gives us four modes so what I did was to leave my aircraft primary mode on mode 1 but to move the secondary mode to mode 3. So all the horizontal views (forward and right...right... back and right... etc) are on mode 1 and all the secondary views (forward up and right... right and up... back up and right...etc) are on mode 3. Also I have mode 2 using mode 1 views and mode 4 using mode 3 views.

To set this up I setup mode 1 and then copied mode 1 to all other modes. Those of you that have been into training with me know I also have my stick scaled. Scaling is very important so that you get responsive flight controls and so you dont black out and we spent a lot of time getting the scaling just right. So first off you want to preserve all that work and use it on mode 1 and mode 3.

Now for mode 2 it should be an exact copy of mode 1 except we will modify the scaling to tame the tank barrels. Mode 4 will be a nearly exact copy of mode 2 or as best we can make it since there is no way to duplicate it precisely (I haven't checked yet to see if there is a text config file we can edit to match them perfectly) like there is with the 'Copy Mode 1' button. Finally you can then change the view on mode 4 to be the same as mode 3 (secondary views).

Now with that setup your view hat will function in vehicles the same way you got used to it in airplanes AND now you can adjust your aim in a tank with much more precision.  :salute

The aileron scaling does not have to be as severe as elevator (as far as the dip in the curve goes for vehicles) but you do want it to dip a little so you can be more precise with it. I made them about the same on my setup and so far its working just great!

You should note this isnt much different than the way the game is setup when you first install it. I found that the small variations in scaling does make adjustments a little more precise and in elevator my graphs look a little more 'S' like:

The above posts are from our squad page where I posted this back in 2009. Since then I have made the 'S' of the ground vehicle more vertical and shifted to the right a bit more than it is here, but you have something to start with.

Basically the same as the elevator scale. The idea is just to make it a little less sensitive around center. The rudder I have set for 100%, but you probably would not want that for a twisty stick, for instance.

This is a very individual thing and no one will find the exact same setting to be ideal and will want some change to suit them personally. However, it does serve as a fairly good means of taming the gun of your tank as way of example.
