Vote to Skip Map
« on: December 21, 2015, 06:12:23 PM »
I wish for the ability to call a vote to skip the current map in the rotation. Let's say a vote can only be called once every hour (If failed), and of course the majority of players would have to vote in agreement for it to be successful. Perhaps this could be coded into the current .dot command system without too much of a struggle.

For those times when the map is huge and there's not a single fight to be found... thoughts?

How much work for Skuzzy and Hitech will this feature be when people get bored and figure out how to greif it?

This is like the old joke that voters are harsher to their beer brewer if he has an outage, than their politicians after raising their taxes. Death and taxes are certain but, fun and sex is only now.

I don't see how you could grief this. After a vote, include a cool down timer. If not enough players vote, the vote fails. If the majority of players vote against, the vote fails. If maps are voted to skip too often during low number hours, the vote percentage needed to pass can be raised.

I'm just trying to think of ways to improve the game when there's absolutely nothing going on.

It's an absolutely great Idea in my opinion...Bustr is under the impression that nothing can be wished for until AH3 is out...which is BS because the same problems will probably happen in the new version that we have now...so yea maybe they don't give it to us now in 2 but maybe they will be like...good idea for 3, especially if it gets support...which I imagine a lot will like this because a load of threads here are about stale fights due to maps.

-1 for the text spamming that will happen, that reason alone is enough.

There would be no text spam, only two messages would appear in chat. The initial notification a vote has started possibly with a timer until poll closes. The second message would be the result of the poll. Every .dot command you input is invisible to yourself, and other players. So there really is no spam...

I believe he is implying that people would spam the text buffer trying to convince others to vote a map "off the island" so to speak.

Side A is finally getting close to winning the war. Sides B & C, still having the majority of the player total, decide to skip the map. Bang.

I use to hate the Crater map because it sucked the life out of the air war.  Then I bit my lip, jumped in tanks, got killed a lot, but then, I started getting kills.  Super fun.  I still suck at tanks but for the first time, I have quite a few tank kills this tour.  The Crater map is one of the most well thought out maps in the game as I now know.

My point is, each map has something for somebody.  You just got to figure out what each map has to offer.

I agree something has to be done with the large maps. Recently, when I log on and a large map is currently up I just log off. I like the OPs idea but I also believe Snailman is correct. Maybe adjusting the victory conditions for large maps to 95%, 10%, 10% could be an alternative.

Then perhaps if one country owns more than 15 % of the other two, the vote fails immediately?

Care to explain why you disagree?

I just don't care for the idea. Every map has good points and bad points. Adapt and overcome. :rock

Seems to be some confusion. I think Krupinski is talking about the terrain, not just the map guys.
