System requirements
« on: January 16, 2016, 03:03:42 AM »
Are we any closer to having even a rough idea as to what the system requirements will be? I'm getting frame rates in the low teens with everything on the lowest settings, so I know I'm going to need to upgrade my video card, but I don't want to waste money doing that if the rest of my system isn't enough to run the game.

Current system:

Judging by my system, yours is good to run with a video card upgrade or might even have some luck until then..... have you tried?

My system is older, and so are the video cards (not SLI either; have been told there is no difference).  Although, my video cards are probably rated a bit higher.

My biggest finding so far has been that folks like to start with everything cranked up first and then try and dial it down.  The most frequent offender is the environmental map.  If you know that you have around 1 GB or less of dedicated video RAM, please turn everything off, or down.  Then add items back, starting with the check boxes 1 at a time.  I wouldn't move sliders from the weakest setting at all until you have found a workable solution with tick boxes.  For example, I don't have clutter on, or clutter in flight, and unless I was buzzing a hangar my eyes wouldn't know the difference.

Loki, I sure am looking forward to seeing you around.  As it seems like you are right about at that corner where upgrade becomes necessary, but hey!  it's beta now!  time to get your feet wet!!   :salute

That would be incorrect!

Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GT 520 is the main problem. It's meant for multimedia, not serious gaming. As Chilli said, a video card upgrade is what you'd need. Maybe a stronger power supply is needed for the new video card, that doesn't show in the dxdiag output. Something between 500 and 750 W is usually enough.

direct x is not the question but the video card itself.  would be nice to get an nvidia with a ...60 or above.

So the AH3 doesn't use DirectX?

I know nothing about DirectX, but notice that some games are supposed to benefit from DirectX 12,
and video board spec's include a DirectX version (mostly 12).

The reason I am asking is that my system is Win7 Prof, which I understand to be limited to DirectX 11.  I really don't want to
"upgrade" to Win 10 to get DirectX 12.  Hence, the question....

So, will AH3 benefit from DirectX 12 (over DirectX 11)?

I don't believe so.  AH utilizes the Directx version that HTC used to program the game.  (my best guess) :headscratch:

I believe for best compatibility the directx version used is either 9 or 10.

do we need to download Dx9 separately or will having installed windows 10 (which appears to have dx10 and is backwards compatible) be enough?
Gone from the game. Please see Spikes or Nefarious for any Ahevents.net admin needs.

Windows arghhhhhhhh   I've just got 8.1 running as good as it can for a mobile application system rather than an operating system.

A reminder from Microsoft keeps popping up telling me my windows 10 version is ready for download and upgrade.  It ain't happen'n in my lifetime.

Beta is running fine with 8.1 which I find surprising. I do wish they'd have enhanced XP rather then design new systems for applications.

Anyone running Beta on XP?  If so how is it performing?

DirectX is backwards compatible, so version 9 or any above that will be fine.
