The main reason people choose not to believe is that telescopes cannot see the lander, because the lens would have to be about 200 meters radius to define anything of such a small size.
It's not always about education, or intellect. Ever met someone you could overpower mentally? As in, they agree with everything you say? Some people are just that way. Others, just can't believe in anything they haven't seen for themselves without some positive proof.
There are a lot of very good reasons to go back to the moon and build a permanent space station there. You have to understand, also, that there are a lot of people that are against operations like NASA simply because they see no direct and immediate benefit for themselves. Tomorrow is just too far away for some of these people. Others just want to save turtles. Its really random, huh?
