Extar Magazines or maybe a Rifle w/ Sling
« on: January 17, 2016, 05:22:03 PM »
Our poor pilots who find themselves captured or bail out are subjected to only a 10 round magazine of .45 ammunition. Would it be possible to maybe give them the option of a 1 time reload or maybe a M1 Garand .30-06 or M1917 En field .30-06 or the M1A1 Carbine .30 which were all used during the theatre. If a smaller weapon is needed for a pilot they also had sub machine guns such as the Thompson .45 sub machine gun or the M42 (UD42) 9mm Parabell um or the M2 "Hyde" .45 CAP. Jumping out of a plane with 10 shot .45 and no reload at minimum is nothing short of virtual suicide. Let's give our boys a fighting chance :rock

The 1911 came with a 7 round magazine.   <POW> wish granted!

Not an M1 Garand, because that's for regular army. Some aircraft had a Thompson on board, but you would never bail out with it. Instead, you would ditch and retrieve it from stowage. Fighters would not have one on board, but aircraft like the B,26 B-24, C-47, TBM, and SBD would. I don't know about the B-17. but maybe the B-29 although it would seem unlikely that you could survive ditching a B-29.

Right now though there doesn't seem to be much for a downed pilot to try to shoot, except troops.

You can kill jeeps, storches, AC trying to take off.

Pilots in AH used to have folding stock carbines just like the drunks carry now but HTC got rid of that toejam because it was stupid.
