Field Ack
« on: January 22, 2016, 11:24:33 AM »
it's not really funny when a player can continue to fly thru a airfield small medium or large, taking out guns without taking a hit I watched a 190A8 at A111 on FesterMA do just that only reason he crashed he compressed coming back down--he flys thru the the ack like it wasen't there. just I know that when I fly through the ack even on a small air field I get torn to pieces.

I don't know if country player count or if a country that has more wins or what that makes them somewhat invulnerable. when a plane can make 3 or 4 passes thru the ack and not get destroyed something is not right-yes I am a Knight-and we Knights see it all the time.
I'm not really trying to make a rant-just sayin
I hope the ack on AH3 is more accurate

There's no magic to it.  If you want to avoid field ack, keep it fast and be constantly losing altitude while you do it, and you won't get hit much if ever.  If you have to go level or up, be jinking every couple seconds.

Same as with anything else shooting at you, after they fire you need to get out of the spot they're aiming for.

I hate to put it this way lunatic1, but it's just dumb luck.  When 1/2 or better of the population in an arena is comprised of folks who have severe in-game suicidal tendencies... someone is going to finally figure out that occasionally, you can run around in ack and accomplish your goal at very very very little cost.  Eventually, someone is going to realize that ack doesn't ALWAYS tear you to pieces.  Gosh, sometimes, you can run around in field ack for quite a long time and take little or no damage.  I mean, eventually it's going to get you but, there's always that chance.

I hope nobody seriously thinks there is any kind of bias built into the game to give one side or the other better odds at evading the auto-ack...

Based on what HiTech has said, there's two reasons why they guy wasn't hit by the ack. The first is skill. The ack can calculate the path of a plane flying according to a mathematical formula. That means both straight lines and parabolic curves. You know, y=ax or y=ax˛ and such. Even a slight aberrance from the pattern will cause the AI redo all its calculations, causing it to miss.

The second reason is luck.

What's luck in a computer game?  At least for AI guns.

Happening to make the right move at the right time.  Personally, I can't judge when to jink for every single gun firing at me on an airfield, but jinking on the way in and more importantly on the way out at ground level means there's an element of luck to avoiding a round I don't happen to see coming in.

It may be luck when you chose to jink, but it is the jink that causes the miss.  Therefore only one reason.  To say there is luck in the AI missing is to imply it is programmed in.

The auto guns adjust.  The so called "fast shooters" seem to shoot in 4 round burst.

If you know how the guns are laid out on the field and you know which guns shoot fast vs. slow, you can easily de-ack a field with no damage.  Same applies to ports, V Bases, and towns.

I can effectively (and usually without damage) deack a V base in 2 passes.  4 guns in run #1 and final 2 guns on run #2.  It truly is about knowing where they are and how they behave.

Luck is a part of it also.

It does take training.  You have to practice and practice, and practice to get it down to a science.

I rarely survive passes over medium and large fields.  I can get through small airfields about 50% of the time.

I am about 90% effective on towns, ports, and v-bases in getting through deacking without getting damaged.  But I haven't really practiced deacking airfields.  No real reason for me to do so.

Hope this helps...

There is a random dispersion cone in the aiming.

Hehe, I know even far less than what my time on the BBS may indicate.

I was mostly just messing with the way you worded your post.  Some people may interpret "luck" as being something outside the program itself.  If you would of said the second reason is due to random dispersion in the aiming generated by the code, I wouldn't of said a thing.  Truly all in fun, it is Friday after  all.
