Mic key results in game freezing up
« on: January 29, 2016, 11:57:15 AM »
My problem is getting worse.  In fact it's worse than ever.  Regardless if I hit the mic buttons on my Thrustmaster, or the F11/F12 keys, it will result in the game locking up, and me having to hit ctrl-alt-del to stop the program.  I've been trying to be diligent in doing ".resetv 2" every time I enter the game, but sometimes even when I do that, keying the mic will result in a brief lock up.  It only happens when I key the mic for the first time in a game session.  Sometimes the game will lock briefly, and I'll recover, but most times I have to hit ctrl-alt-del.

Originally I thought it was because my laptop is set up with two mic devices, but I disabled one of them.  Any help or explanation would be deeply appreciated.  Thanks.

A DXDIAG output might be helpful.

Usually, something ike is indicative of having more than one sound card device in the computer and they are not playing well together.  In desktops, it is usually the HDMI sound driver installed by NVidia or ATI video drivers.

You need to check your background processes.  A clean Windows 7 systems should have about 35 to 38 processes in the background.  My guess is you are closer to 80, or so.

Also note, the Avnex virtual audio driver is going to cause some audio processing delays.

Your computer is already handicapped with the Intel video chip, which uses system memory and has no dedicated video RAM.  Background processes are going to have more impact, in this case.

Jinx also check to see if you have a button going bad.  I had one on a thrustmaster that would stay on after pressing it sometimes giving me all kinds of trouble

If you are doing voice changing you should probably use hardware instead of software anyway. The Yamaha MG10XU mixer includes gender changer, radio static and 22 other editable effects, which I think you can find a video of on YouTube. Runs about $200, but it is a mixer and not an audio card. The input stream runs through USB, but does not lag your system like a USB headphone device will. There is a cheaper 6channel device, but it lacks gender changer. Just FYI.
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.
