Britain
« on: February 13, 2016, 07:00:28 AM »
Been hearing recently parents telling their kids not to join the forces :old:

Not because of the danger but because of the reasons for the recent wars.

Maybe the Internet is informing people.

Read an article a while back about their recruiting numbers way way down. Basically the lack of benefits/etc outweighed the sense of duty or other factors that tend to lead people to join the armed forces.

Maybe it's the fact those who start the wars don't actually pick up a gun just the coin.?

And those coming back are left picking up the pieces.

I work with a guy who got injured in Iraq, and was reassigned to a medical holding unit stateside while the army figured out if they could fix his back.  The psychological and physical trauma soldiers go through is astounding.  He told me of one guy, the lone survivor of a Bradley Fighting Vehicle that had hit a Russian anti-tank mine.  He had a severe traumatic brain injury and would open imaginary doors and try to step through them.  There's no fixing a brain injury like that.

There are tens of thousands of people who are a shell of their former selves.

There better be an extremely good reason to go to war.

a bush in the hand is better than a bird in the hand.  then again, if the mood strikes sometimes a bird in the hand is better.

Nonsense!
There are plenty of brave young Brits joining ISIS.
