Stumbled across this and it's quite an interesting read. Jerry Foster was the first flying reporter in Arizona starting in the 1970's. He captured many amazing news stories and performed numerous daring rescues with his news helicopter. He became a local celebrity and President Reagan presented him the Harmon International Aviation Trophy for public service. Newsweek hailed him as a hero who flew a “chopper of mercy.” Not bad for a guy with an 8th Grade education. But his life soon took a downward spiral and he wound up living a life of exile as a cross country trucker.

He wrote a book a couple of years ago called Earthbound Misfit. I plan on picking that up soon, but in the meantime this story is pretty interesting.

The most common is not the same thing as the majority.  Golly-geen, do you guys even understand the English words you use?

Since I have internet service and a computer, I took my own advice and took the time to learn that, indeed, the truckdriver statistic is not true.

Not just because of boilerdown's comment, but because the person who produced this statistic for NPR did not correctly account for aggregated data from the Bureau of Labor and Statistics (BLS) data. The data for truckdriver was aggregated, but the data for other jobs remained broken into the subset within the entire job description.

For example, the different nursing specialty jobs were not combined into a total nursing category and different teaching (elementary, middle school, high school) jobs were not combined into "teachers."

So, in 42 states, retail salesperson is the most common job. There are more cooks, cashiers, office workers, secretaries, waitresses, janitors and other workers than truck drivers.

So, Zoney is correct. WTG Zoney.
