I've just spent a couple of days doing storm restoration and finally things seem to be settling down.
We had a few thousand folks without power because of storms that hit in the last 2 days. Lots of rain and heavy winds. It makes for long hours and general misery, especially when temperatures drop.
As I was working today, I had one of the best experiences I've ever had. I was 30ft or so up getting a transformer rigged when a wind gust grabbed my bucket and taught me how to dance on its terms. This particular gust didn't know the meaning of "slow dancing". So here I am hanging on for life and trying to ride this beast down to the ground. White knuckles and wobbly knees are massive understatement at this point. I make it down and am trying to climb out of the bucket when I hear a kind voice behind me. I look back and an little elderly lady is standing there with a cup of fresh coffee for me. Now this has happened before and I can't begin to describe how thankful I am for folks who are so kind and considerate. But that was not the best part.
This dear sweet lady hands me the coffee, and I swear she had a twinkle in her eye as she said,
Son, would you dance with me?
