what hardware effects planes performance
« on: February 26, 2016, 12:19:16 PM »
I have noticed when flying a mission that my plane can not keep up with the rest of the squad. All are flying same plane at max throttle but I slowly fall back. I am showing a fps of 59 with GTX 660 nvidia card and intel 7 3.4. Could my Internet connection be effecting my planes performance?

No.

The only hardware that could have an effect on your plane's performance is a defunct / miscalibrated input device.
Make sure your throttle is properly calibrated (and check it by looking at the 'advanced' tab in the controler setup in AH)

Despite your hardware being perfectly calibrated it's quite hard to keep up with the rest, especially if you're not too experienced in formation flying. A good mission leader should always pull his throttle back a little because every slight movement the followers do will slow them down ever so slightly, yet cumulatively. Thus if you're the last in the row you're prone to fall back. It gets worse if all of the missionaries should look for enemy activity below them. The continuous sideways tilting will soon eat your energy with the said result.

So it's not your hardware. Next time it happens ask the leader to slow down about 10% and if he won't, join other people's missions next time. The one flying straight should fly slower than those flying zig-zag behind him.

I've got an older system by today's standards that still runs the game well by my standards.

Even if you use the J and L keys which is rudder trim to make slight adjustments, it will slow you down.  It is quite common for the lead guy to pull away since he or she would be using auto pilot most likely and everyone else is making small adjustments.

When you do make small changes go right back to auto pilot.

Wingman command is another idea to lock your plane to another but it works best if the lead guys pulls a few inches off his MP.

If you film you can see everyone's speed and you can look for changes in your speed and clues for what may be causing it.

Formation flight is easier with less than max power for the leader.
