It is a good idea to remove the drivers as there could always be unintended consequences from leaving them installed even when they are disabled.
Yes, remove the drivers, disable the devices, then reboot. That should stop Windows from trying to re-install the drivers. If Windows tries to install them again, then something got missed along the way.
This is beginning to remind me of a song we sang at camp when I was a scoutmaster called "The Cat Came Back". The devices came back and I did reboot (Actually shut down and then started again later). So what did I miss. Here's what I did:
1) opened device manager in control panel
2) Double clicked on Hi Def Audio Device
3) selected the driver tab
4) clicked disable
5) clicked yes when asked if I really wanted to disable it
6) Clicked uninstall
7) clicked OK in the warning that this would remove the device.
8) Repeated the same steps for Intel Display Audio
9) Observed that they were no longer listed in device manger
10) closed device manager and control panel an immediately shut down computer
About 2 hrs later I restarted the computer and checked device manager. The cat came back! They were both there and enabled.
