Brook are you guys setting up the Yak 9T with only the 1 12.7mm and 1 20mm option so you can have the most common variant after the Yak 7b, the Klimov M-105 PF  powered Yak 9? They started delivery in August 42 but, were in numbers by October 42 for Stalingrad. I thought that was part of Waffle's reasoning in giving the 9T two gun packages instead of building another variant.

This scenario's time period is late 1943.  I think the Yak-9T with the bigger cannon was in use by then along with Yaks of earlier types.

I would like to thank the VVS High Command for sending 3 Yak-9T after my 109-G6 instead of 3 Yak-9. Three Yak-9 would have destroyed my G6 with gondolas quickly. The over sight of fitting that NS-37 dump truck in the nose of those Yak-9T for a fighter to fighter mission role made it possible for me to damage one and destroy another. The real Yak-9T required a fighter escort if they were to engage bombers.

It might be fairer to the special arena players to specifically use the Yak-9T with the 37mm package for shooting up ground targets. Then when the Yak-9T is reassigned to fighter duties to fight 109 and 190. Change the Yak-9T to the 20mm package which will convert it to a Yak-9 making it a bit more competitive for air to air fighter combat. From 42 on the Yak-9 was the work horse Yak before the 9u and then Yak-3 were introduced.

Tonight was my first time ever flying the G6 in any arena combat, and it was bogged down with gondolas. I'm a fair to average level fighter pilot in the game, and a "short bus window licker" to poor 1 vs 3 ACM practitioner.

Please special events coordinators, fly some matchups in the DA with the G6 and gondolas vs first the Yak-9T, then the Yak-9T converted to 20mm package. Do this from the high alt starts and the mid alt starts. Those longer wings and 300 pounds less weight in the nose would have been a kindness to the players assigned the Yak-9T for fighter combat duties.

The AH plane "Yak-9T" is available in the scenario with whichever gun package the VVS decides to use, meaning that they can use the historical Yak-9 or the historical Yak-9T, whichever they want.

Likewise, the LW can fly 109G-6's with or without gondolas as they see fit.

Me, if I were flying them, I would probably prefer to fly the Yak-9T with 20 mm (making it a Yak-9), and I definitely would prefer flying the G-6 without gondolas.

But . . . that is up to them.

It really won't matter which gun package their carrying as they fall from the skies.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

That's the spirit!  :aok

But . . . only if you get some pilots to actually fly those shiny, new Bf 109G-6's all lined up and ready to go.  :airplane:

Time to fill that roster.

Where are those 109 pilots hiding?  :headscratch:

Does the game model the CoG shift from the different gun packages, or just the extra weight?

Not sure.  My guess would be that it does model CG, too (given that it does model it for fuel tanks).

If FSO will continue to give the VVS side the Yak-9T, maybe add a note to suggest the 20mm package will have a more harmonious good ride garbage ride outcome above 8k than the 37mm package. Those three Yak-9T were lucky it was me in that G6 and not one of my other squad mates who actually flys 109s. Junky was up in a 109 and would have eaten them for Scooby snacks in a few passes. I got lucky because one appeared to stall in front of my nose.

Seems fair to use the -9T instead of the 9U, quite big difference in performance between the two and the -9T is more equal to its counterparts in this scenario.

The Yak-9T in our stable has a 20mm option which then makes it the Yak-9. That was the work horse for the VVS and competitive with the G6. I know this scenario is called the gates of warsaw. I'm not sure the VVS and Luft fought air battles between 25k and 30k like we do in all scenario s.o.p.

Also this scenario has alt caps. 12k for bombers and 20k for fighters.
