nvida control panel
« on: April 18, 2016, 07:19:54 AM »
I was reading another post where they talked about the nvida settings ...should u just leave them alone ?  I thought at least vert sync should be forced on ?   I ended up getting a rig built , not much now but can upgrade the crap out of it.  I got a fx 4 core 3.8ghz.. 8gigs of ram for now, will more help the game ? And a gtx 760 that I got a great deal on.  playing ah2 at full settings now ..ah3 soso... but waiting for release .  Was told I could double the card with cross fire ...is it worth it ?

There is a setting in the first AH screen for "video settings" to disable vsync, but I think you are better off with it on. There is no Aces High profile, unless you create one. There is nothing wrong with doing that, but you really have to understand the settings in order to change them to anything useful. You are better off controlling graphics in Aces High itself, either AHII, or AHIII.

Nvidia does not use Crossfire, it uses SLI. You can use SLI with AHII, or AHIII, but you will have to know how to set up a profile first. With your card the only thing additional you are likely to get is additional anti-aliasing depth, and perhaps some additional FPS. Probably you would be better off waiting and buying a 980Ti, or the newer Pascal GPUs once they are released.

Best bet is to set everything in the Nvidia control to "application control" and then set up the game using the controls in the game.

It's simplest to let nVidia control things, but you CAN google individual games settings and see what others who for some reason enjoy testing every single setting on/off/etc, and see what is optimal, and then lock those settings in each individual game yourself.  The overall improvement in performance/appearance has really shrunk in doing so in recent years IMO, but old habits die hard.  It's still good to go through your settings carefully IMO, whenever you reinstall nVidia drivers it always flips SLI to OFF, plus if you have a Gsync monitor it's a good idea to manually check those settings as well and make sure they are where you want them.

SLI with AH, as Challenge said, no profile, and even creating one has never yielded large, if any, FPS improvements for me, with AA cranked or mid range, it's never seemed to matter much.  680 SLI, 970 SLI, and 980 SLI, I just don't bother with it now.  Unless you play a lot of AAA big name titles that get the attention of nVidia and the developers regarding multi card/sli/xfire setups, it's better to put your $ into the single best card you can, so far as AH goes.

SLI does make quite a difference with an optimized profile, especially in 1440p and 4k at high detail levels in popular titles.

What is irritating is seeing that the Control Panel is well aware that AHII and AHIII neither one offer ambient occlusion (you can't even force it on), but offers no optimization even once a profile is in place unless you specifically tell it what you want. It's just a bid for ransom money.

ok so your saying even though the nvida control panel shows ah2 it will not recognize any settings u make ?  when I first started playing I read waffles recommended settings and followed them and even took time to figure out what some of the other settings did...   ty for the advice ...I will leave them alone.  The video sync I was talking about is in the control panel ...the one on the game I leave alone ,,,but I remember someone saying to force it on to avoid rubber bullets...but if it don't do nothing then whats the sense .  The new computer came with widows 10 ,, is there anything I should do to it for better game play ??

I have 8 gigs of ram now...will more help game play ?  it can use like 64 gigs I think ...I know that is crazy but will some more help ?

It will recognize the settings, but you are better off just letting AH control things.

If you were able to follow Waffles notes and get things working then that's different. However, vsync should be left on. You don't need to force it on. I think HiTech even said once that rubber bullets should not be affected by the setting. Still, turning vsync off should be done just for testing.

Just keep your drivers up to date and you'll be fine.
