Bailing crew
« on: May 04, 2016, 01:23:00 PM »
When a pilot bails from a bomber/multi-crew plane, you should see the proper number of chutes according to the # of crew in it.  Cause when I see something like a B-17 pilot bail, and one chute, it means only one crew member survived. One should see at least 7 bail from it. Same goes for any multi-crew aircraft, even if the other crew member is AI.

Make sense?

When we tested the massive B17 raid over Europe AI mission in the alpha, getting close to the massive numbers of AI chutes as they littered behind the line of bomber stream advance killed your FPS. One or two bombers are not a problem, the 49ers always bring enough bombers, it would be a problem for the defenders with less muscular PC's and graphics cards. Even some players in AH2 report stuttering attacking their missions.

I like the idea! In light of weaker PCs, make it a graphic option. Something along the lines of;

Enable bomber crew bailout [X]

I think it would be nice for immersion!

It would be cool if the bailing crew would be random.  Sometimes you'd see 10 chutes, maybe other times you'd see 3 chutes.

Be even cooler if it matched which positions were shot out. ;)

you only see 1 chute because there's only 1 crew member.  if you have a gunner, he doesnt bail, he's beemed up to the tower.

while cool to see, what would be the point of seeing 5 or 10 chutes?   it would create a lot of confusion to see 30 chutes when a b17 bails out over town to protect the map room.  I dont see it happening.

I would see the 49ers being the first to fly up to 10 boxes of bombers over a town and all bailing at the same time. Then during the confusion of 100 chutes in the air reducing all the defenders PC to a 12 fps slide show, a single 49er runs in an M3 and takes the base. It would be interesting to see if this would jam up the auto ack and slide show air defenders from a task group while Airjer and others pop up out of the ocean and sink the CV, cruiser, or battleship. Yes AH3 has an Iowa class battleship.

After experiencing what that many chutes does to FPS in the AI mega missions, this is handing mega abuse of the game to weenies on a golden platter.

With my idea, you could just disable the bomber bail out. No big deal, it isn't the end of the world!

It will be if 30 chutes come out at you when a bomber bails out as you come up their six.   I know I would just to get a kill on film.

Then whining will start.

If you don't like it, then just disable the feature. How hard is that?

Like I said I would bail just to watch some fighter crash into a chute

It wouldn't be an issue if Del's idea was implemented since the player could toggle the feature on/off.
