MS's makes this free version intended for use by students and experimenters, so if you already have VS on your computer, know this before you install it. Like everything else MS, there are downsides.
When I installed the Express version of VS C++2010, at some point, a month later maybe, it wiped out my version of VS C++2008. As it turns out, it hasn't made a difference for me and some of the calls are 'safer' then in the previous 2008 version, but then I don't do commercial software.
If you're comfortable with your current version, then other then testing the latest, you'll probably be happier where you are. If you're someone wanting to try programing without the high cost of VS, this is definitely the way to go. Also check out their SDKs while you're on their site.
