  I was going to add this to the discussion about bomber crews bailing out, but I realized this really needs it's own thread.

  How about when a pilot bails out, he can't End Sortie until he reaches the ground, even if someone shoots him before he gets there. 

  I saw this in another flight game some time ago, and I thought it might an interesting addition to Aces High.  You would still have the stats for getting killed, or bailing successfully, etc.  But a pilot would have to ride the chute all the way down.  This could help add some immersion, and maybe discourage the bomb and bail crowd.

See ExitWhileMoving in the Arena settings. So long as they don't open their chute until near the ground, my usual procedure, it has little effect.

Air Warrior used to be that way and it really sucked.  If you accidentally bailed out, sometimes you'd have to wait as long as 10 minutes (depending on the alt you bailed at) before you'd touch the ground.  There would be players begging for others to shoot their chutes so they wouldn't be stuck until they hit the ground.

AH Was like that for quite awhile.  Got pretty good at timing when to pop the chute during free-fall so you were only floating for a few seconds.

Did 'splat' a lot figuring that timing out.

If you accidentally opened the chute too early, you either rode it out or alt-F4'd

  For those complaining about the log wait to reach the ground, you don't have to open your chute right away.  You free fall until you get close.  Getting the right time to open your chute is part of the challenge. 

  Like Nrshida and Ack-Ack pointed out, it can become a serious problem if you open your chute too early at high altitude.  Maybe put a two minute limit on chute time.  Once you bail out and open your chute you would have two minutes, or when you reach the ground, whichever comes first, before End Sortie becomes an option.  Until then it would be greyed out on the clipboard.  There would be a little count-down timer on the screen so you could tell how much time you have left.

  This would work well with some other wishes from the past about having rescue missions.

But why do we want to hang in the chute? Those that want that can just wait until on ground and then end the sortie. it would just be annoying.

You already have this choice. Forcing it on other people who don't choose it is unlikely to grow the player base.

-1. You've already taken yourself out of the fight by bailing, I see little point having to stay in the chute all the way to the ground.

Sort of a side note, I'd like to see a more extensive bailing out process. Currently, you press enter three time to bail. Several times I've gone to do this in order to jump out of a burning lead bomber just to have it explode before I can finish hitting enter for the third time. Upon hitting enter for the third time, it's like the bail out process carries over to my second plane and I end up bailing out of a perfectly good drone. Perhaps a check box would help solve this problem, but it happens pretty rarely. Detail wise, I think it would be cool to see the pilot roll the canopy/open an hatch and then move out of the plane - but I know that will be pretty tough to implement with so many different vehicle layouts and is ultimately insignificant  compared to game play enhancements.

Just add a respawn timer, you can only reup once every 5 minutes.
