It really puts a strain on any FSO frame if the side #s are out of whack. That's not the only issue that a design can have there are certainly some flaws in any setup...but the side balance can really be a kick in the nuts to a balanced frame. I have seen it many times. Do what you can to get your squad members in there by roll time.

AGREED!!!    :aok

Down 20+ pilots from the get go, then having to attack and defend can create some over balance issues.   If you have a squad that is escorting come in light in numbers..... It makes the mission just that much harder to achieve.

In this setup, JABO missions are pretty much a given, they can happen from NOE to as high as you want to be.   However I do not agree with the fact they hardly ever end well.   We run our fair share of them, and if the target goes down, it's a success!!  They do require timing, and teamwork from all involved, and staying on task and focused on the objective is a key.  But again, if the numbers for a squad or 2 involved in said mission come in light.......  Things may not go well at all.   Kind of like last month for the IL's that got decimated well before target.

Personally I like the planeset for both sides, however I believe the Allies really do not need 3 different twin engine bomber, but I believe it has more to do with balance than anything else.....  Remember, the CM of this setup stated from the get go, plane kills will not win, ground targets destroyed will, so adjustments in tactics out of the normal realm is a must for all involved.

Frame 1 is behind us all, <S> to all involved, and heres to a better frame 2......  Remember FSO is supposed to be immersion in history, and fun

Second the AGREED!!!   :aok

1. Starting numbers will vary, even if all commitments are within range. Over time, variations should average, but occasionally there will be extremes.

2. P-47s diving on a bridge is practically impossible to defend. It took two to kill all but one section, even with six 109's on them.

Don't get me wrong. Destructible bridges are awesome. But, the ratio of defense to offense tilts to the offense.

Another factor in the numbers might the download time for the map. Us procrastinators almost didn't get in. It took me two plus minutes. I heard some guys report six or seven minutes.

I would personally like to thank LCA for forming an orderly queue on the deck   :devil

And thank you from the LCA for pointing out once again that bad winners are even worse than bad losers . The plan didn't work, leaving you lucky ones with easy pickings so you feel the need to come in here with a wise comment. Way to show your class.

Man I didn't know LCA didn't have a sense of humour. Lighten up francis ;)

I think the axis did the best they could with what they had. I think that getting spotted early didn't help their cause. Nice try Axis! good job and good effort. now lets move on!.....

Just going to add 2 things:

The large map download impacted and I lost a couple of pilots because they didn't get there in time.

Last 2 FSO series the Allied side have been in the situation the Axis finds itself this month.  This doesn't make it OK, doesn't make creators or players feel better, doesn't mean I'm the cause of it by swapping sides, but it does mean that as experience and other factors improve the balance gets better.  I definitely look forward to those times when both sides are still fighting at the the 2 hour mark and have to be prised apart.

I get really really tired of selective realism disguised as a desire to make bombers easier to kill.

Again. How so?  If you can't be more specific, then I'm not sure this is constructive vs. a whine.

Put some effort into it.

Ok, I'm game.

There were zero 110s or 410s from daytime units in the area of this FSO at the time portrayed in this FSO. ZG26 was in Norway, ZG101 was in southern Germany, ZG76 was in Poland.

Why are they in this set up?

Furthermore, KG76 deployed to Münster-Handorf, Achmer, and Hesepe with Ar 234 for operations against the Western Allies beginning in December '44. Why are they not here?  If the Allies have a perk aircraft, why not the Axis?

That should help remedy the imbalance in attack planes. Each side has one fast bomber, and one not as fast. This alone would be a great help to fix the imbalance and the historical accuracy.

On an unrelated note, the map download time was also an issue to be sure as far as total numbers are concerned, but I would assume that it affected both sides fairly evenly. Not much can be done about that.

We went allied this month cause cmex wanted to fly a tempest...the 6 of us ran into no less than 15 109s...and all died a terrible death in our p47s...was great fun.... :noid

The map download time was a factor for us too...had to wait on runway for a couple of guys...but I did go to SEA early and warned the guys about the extended download time...

We will be back axis next month because like normal when we go allied we are given bombs and no escort and sent to our collective deaths

Guess the anti-horde had bad night after they ran into the mini-horde. :x

Seems to me a bad idea when a dedicated Axis squad goes allied to get the perk plane.

Wish I was CiC, your group would have got KP.

Don't think Chesty would have liked it either.

Not actually a bad idea at all Joker312

It's all about knowing a squads strengths and the pilots in some cases.

It's about knowing the reputation of the squads, and what they do really well, and what they don't do so well.

We rotate on a pretty regular basis, do we get bombers and attack roles when axis?   Sure we do.

Do we get premium axis fighter rides?  Not usually, but it is what it is and we hold our own just fine.

Both Slipknot and I have had CiC as axis, and it's been fun.  Maybe we don't always per say win, but we do pretty well I think.

It's fun, and a change of pace working with both sides....  Were always playing with different ideas and tactics, and knowing who does what well is an advantage in ways.

I personally hope you get those tempest in at least 1 frame puller, and CAP duty to go with them, because I feel pretty confident in what the out come would be  :t

On the AR234 thoughts Devil505 brought to light.......  I would be all for letting the axis trade out all their 410's in frame 3 for the 234's.   Only catch is they get 4 max, and they raise their JU-88 minimum number by 8.

You see the allies have 3 bombers they must fly, not 2.   So making a trade in bomb load out capabilities between the 2 aircraft changes the numbers drastically so in my mind a max of 4 could be allowed.

However you would have 8 extra fighter jocks.   So to balance that you would have to take up more JU's.

Would be an interesting test, and info may be useful in future FSO's for plane set balances when it comes to late war bombers.

we are dedicated axis and we went allies, have you looked at our stats for the frame? we did pretty well, and if we didn't, so what! its about having fun! I don't need anyone to perceive how much fun I had or didn't have.

my question is this, are people worked up because the axis got wiped out and they feel bad for them, or are they worked up because the allies didn't have any more targets to shoot down to bolster their score after T+60? whats REALLY the issue here?
