Wish the flight path would have straight flight paths like a race track.

I agree, maybe a path like the Indy 500 track.

Shy do you want straight line?

Having a circle, just about all you get is deflection shots. A straight line would give a better idea of hold over according to your convergence range.

That's what the target command is for.

The .target command to bring up the 200ftx200ft target.

.target range heading azimuth

range - 1-32,000yds
heading - 1-360 degrees
azimuth - 1-360 degrees

Offline fly east on auto level, then to test your convergence at 400 yards.

.target 400 90 (azimuth is left blank for level targeting positioning)

Anyone can shoot at something straight ahead and use tracers to adjust for relative forward motion because of the Icon yardage readout. The hardest thing for players as it was for real pilots in WW2 is to aim with deflection and hit anything. No one will hold still for you in the game.

Another problem inherit with the offline drones is their speed. They travel between 225 and 250 which is not the norm at all times in the game. That introduces a real world problem from WW2 for pilots. Gunnery training school was usually taught with training aircraft that flew 225-250. So the diameter of the gunsight reticle ring was smaller than combat reticle rings to account for the slower speed.

Over the years I have watched players shoot late in their snap shots who complained in the forums about all the time they spent with the offline drones shooting them from every angle they could think of. If all fighters in the MA were limited to 250 max as their top speed, those guys would have had very high hit percentages.

Shilo,

Over the last decade I have wished for several things related to the drone patterns and gunnery training.

1. - a menu of various drone flight patterns.
2. - an increase in the drone speed to match the more often higher MA speeds.

Creating your own missions with the mission editor I suppose is the answer to this. I just thought it would be simpler to have a small menu of patterns with different speeds and changes in alt while over an offline field. Or even a default pattern that you can modify speed, shape, climb\dive from the clipboard with in reason which would go into effect when you clicked "OK". That way each drone you shot down re spawns and you can go at it in a confined area.

Something like this is probably easier to write up than it is for Hitech to invest time in to make it idiot end user proof.
