There is a fine line between stupidity and courage as seen here.

True, but we are attracted by unknown or ...dark side. :uhoh
What we learned in schools 30 years ago about storms and lightning , how the electrifying air masses are causing electric discharge, could be wrong. All kind of dark energy ,dark matter and antimatter ....was  detected in storms over past 6-7 years. I googled some links below.

Have storm chasers ever bothered to get close to the big boys? Ef4's or 5's? Definitely not this close but close enough to call it close.

Not that close, unless they have a death wish.   Two different realms in terms of damage, cell size and sheer intensity.   The 4's-5's have 150-200+ mph winds, incurring larger debris and hail.   2's are just above 100 mph, if memory serves and while it doesn't seem like much?   It is night and day.   But I still think it is somewhat ballsy, albeit unsafe to get that close to even a 1 or 2 like these chasers did.   It makes you lax and complacent.

The Wray tornado has already documented that another pair of storm chasers were about 100 yards from it at one point.   You should not be getting closer than a 1/2 mile or so from a debris cloud on a 4 or 5.   While the risk and thrill influence storm chasers, safety is paramount.   The larger debris will demolish a vehicle, even the TIV (which was getting rattled around pretty good in an EF1).

If you're really curious check out the TV show "Storm Chasers".  Glad to see Reed Timmer is still alive after all these years.

This is the best footage of a tornado ever I think.  It just sat there on the road and traveled along it, like a one in a million intercept.  Photogenic too.  Where's the Dominator?  They could have drove into that thing so easily.

Edit: 360 view here: https://www.rt.com/viral/342447-storm-chaser-360-tornado and on his Facebook page.  I just watched the top of it, as the clouds spun around and sometimes got sucked in.

Boildown

This is the Captain.  We have a lil' problem with our entry sequence so we may experience some slight turbulence and then... explode.

remember when they said lightning is hotter than the sun?  that is hot! hard to imagine. and if lightning is a "spark", the powers that be to create a 10 mile long spark, have to be Enormous!.
