Joystick and Peds
« on: May 18, 2016, 07:36:55 AM »
I'm looking to upgrade my aging CH set for my birthday (Fighterstick, Throttle and Peddles) to some that perhaps are 109 replicas.
I have seen posts in the past that have shown kinda the ones I'd love to buy, but the BBS search proved fruitless.
If anyone knows of these posts and or links to places of purchase, I would be most appreciative.

Hi Dolby,

You might be thinking of this outfit.

I'm not sure if this stick is a 109 replica, however.

I bet you could supply Made with the parts and a little "coin" to boot and he could build you a replica 109 stick...just look at that dual throttle he built....that thing is cooler than the other side of the pillow...

The Gladiator pro and the upcoming "Gunfighter" from VKB have a 109ish looking stick.  They plan on doing an entire host of WW2 and modern sticks for their Gunfighter base according to posts in their web forums IIRC.

http://www.vkb-sim.pro/viewtopic.php?t=1947

This is one of the sticks they are making which will fit both the Gladiator (out now) and the Gunfighter (coming) base.

Gunfighter Base (it will likely take TM sticks out of the gate like the Cougar/Warthog, plus VKBs own new ones - FYI I found a Cougar set for 40$ USD recently that's like new).

IMO Dolby I would wait for the Gunfighter base, pick a throttle of some kind you'll like (Thrustmaster has a new stand alone throttle out, or you could buy a stand alone whatever throttle, there are a few out there), and pick whatever pedals you like.  If you're into 109 stuff, the best pedals like that IMO are the BF109Cam Slaw pedals, I've posted pics of mine over at FW before.  So, with a KG12 stick/Gunfighter base, Slaw 109 pedals, and a throttle of some kind, that'd be about as 109-ish controls as you could buy right now I think.  Plus, you could stick in other sticks in the Gunfighter base for more hats/buttons for Jet/Space games.

IF you need one NOW, the Gladiator Pro is sorta/kinda close to what you're perhaps looking for, and the KG grip will fit in that base too so they've said.  Very switched on components/base in that thing IMO.  You can already swap out cams and stuff in it apparently.  Link on the US page below, there is another one for those of you stuck in Europe like yourself.  Haha.

While I prefer the look/features of the upcoming Gunfighter, the Gladiator Pro is no slouch, pretty impressive list of features -

- Real WWII KG12 Grip Replica
- Ergonomic Grip Angle
- Next-Gen All-Metal Gimbal with Changeable Springs and Cams
- Pitch, Roll Axes (Twist Not Included)
- Throttle Axis
- Sturdy Internal Structure for Long Use
- Metal Baseplate for Stability
- Silicone Feet for Strong Surface Grip
- Pre-Drilled Holes for Permanent Attachement to Surface (Optional)

SPECIFICATIONS:

- Aluminum Gimbal with Ball Bearings
- Contactless MaRS sensors (X, Y axes) with High Resolution
- 32-bit ARM Controller
- 17 Programmable Buttons
- 29 Total Logical Buttons Using Shift/Mode Functions
- 1 Hat-Switch (8-way)
- 2 LEDs (Mode Selection)
- Plug & Play with Driver Free Installation (Recommended for Most Users)
- Firmware Upgrade via USB
- Onboard Memory for Storing Profiles
- Port for Connecting VKB-Sim Rudder Pedals
- USB 2.0
- Optional Programming Software Available (For Advanced Users)
 - Calibrate Axes                              - Create Deadzones
 - Save and Load Profiles                - Adjust Axes Resolutions

With Thrustmaster having what was in my opinion a DISASTER of a PR event last week on the carrier museum, not showing ANY new high end hardware, and saying a new Warthog like HOTAS is many years off (lame), VKB and others have an opportunity to really seize that market share.  It looks like VKB is answering, with a lot of great new high end/tech stuff on the way.

You can also get a stick extension with vkb. It's like the benefits of scaling without the downside when your stick moves twice as far for the same range of values.

It is critical that you do that if you fly DCS, IMO.

I modified a CH Fighterstick Pro with a 12-bit board, a conduit extension, and a quick disconnect bus (cabling). I had to add gate springs to get the stick centering properly, but I think for the next time I play around I will get the parts printed, or laser cut and make something truly unique.

How is the Gladiator only $100?  It looks like it should cost much more than that.

I, too, will be interested to hear how it is.

There is a large difference between the Gladiator and the Gladiator Pro, the Pro has a much more advanced cam/gimbal/etc system by the looks of it, but even still, 100$ considering the market is quite a deal for what you get with the standard Gladiator IMO.

I'm betting that both will be built like tanks, if their rudder pedals and previous sticks are any guide.  I'm also hoping that they sell a ton of both of these new sticks, to help fund their higher end stuff which I myself am more interested in, although the Gladiator Pro certainly is a high end stick in its own right, just not the exact one I'm after from them (Gunfighter base + sticks).

Again, IMO they have a huge opportunity right now considering neither TM, CH, or even Saitek really, are making high end HOTAS right now - TM has said at their recent press thing the Warthog is it for quite a while to come, CH hasn't changed a thing in what, 15 years other than going USB, Saitek, well, they tried with the X65 (failed), and the X55/56 are mid range IMO as good as they are, and not in the Warthog/Previous TM/VKB/etc class.  So, VKB if they come out with a good HOTAS or even succeed with the Gunfighter/Gladiator/Pedals could grab a huge share of the sim market.  I see all kinds of posts over at Star Citizen, guys with a lot of expendable $ who buy stuff like ships/guns you can't even use there yet, who ask about higher end hardware for flying that game.  BIG market, not to mention here, DCS, IL2, RoF, and the rest.
