Off Friday Night MEGA MISSION this Friday 27 May 16

Invite to all FSO squads and individuals:

  This months MEGA MISSION is being run by the 49th who will be the CIC for the mission with the 325th providing command and control of the fighter support.  I've been a part of these on two separate occasions and the sight of 40+ bomber formations (120 bombers) with 40+ fighters flying escort is amazing to see and be a part of.
 
  Link to the mission brief:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HvppGJKoIZI  provides the date and time of the mission.  Plenty of time to prepare and invite your guys.
 
  Squads or individuals will be able to fly as a bomber or fighter.  Intent is put into the air a crushing amount of bombers being supported by a large number of fighters.  And be a part something really BIG.  The Bomber right now is the B17, but I suspect that can be adjusted by request to the 49th.  The fighters will be your squads choice along with when you up and escort and then drop out.  You'll just want something with long range capability.  I'll be in my P-51D with DT's.
 
  You can expect to fly a long mission 1-2 hours.  A little less for the fighters who will be able to up a little later after the bombers are at high alt.  Exact targets will be selected based on the map at the time.
 
  You may have to switch sides in the Late War Arena to participate.  The 325th will have to switch.

Hello Viper,

Pleasure working with you fellas the other day in FSO.  It's become a bit of tradition that the Pigs attack these huge bomber missions.  So we will see you up there, but not on the same side of the cannons.

  To me thats the fun of the MEGA MISSION's.  You can join either side.  Use the plane of your choice.  And in the end just have lots of fun.

The May MEGA MISSION was completed with mission success.  Haven't had this much fun in a long time.  A 2 1/2 hour running gun fight!!!  Constant action from start to finish.  Better than any FSO mission I have every been a apart of just because of its size.

HUGE Turnout!!!  20 pilots in B17s with formations.  Yep 60 X B17's all flying in a tight box, just an amazing site to witness.  Another 25-30 pilots flying escort in a mix of 51's, 47's and 38's.  49th had a beautiful box formation and every enemy fighter that engaged it paid dearly.  The fighter escorts did an amazing job against what i would estimate was 50+ fighters attacking the bombers over a 2 1/2 hour time period.

BISH City reduced by 70% and the BISH HQ dropped.  Friendly bombers paid a heavy price for mission success with only 4 formations returning.

BIG <S> to 49Dundee who put this months Mega Mission together.  Not a small effort or easy.  Involved a lot of personnel time and endless coordination's to get all of the cats into one spot for a mission.  The 325th VFG would be happy to support your missions anytime.

Special kudos's to G3MF - Rodent's gang did an outstanding job of breaking up incoming attacks, flank protection and fighter relay.  A top notch effort from one of the best squads in the FSO today.

Pigs:  You guys did a great job of finding and engaging the bombers early.  Your attacks effected the mission timing and routes.  To large for you to stop by yourselves but a great effort in your attacks.  <S>  You guys should consider flying with the formation, the mission is longer and a lot more fun, I think.

They run every month on the off FSO Friday night.  If you weren't in it you missed out!!!  Get in touch with the 49th for the next one in June.
