Anyone watching SpaceX?
« on: May 27, 2016, 05:17:20 PM »
I've been watching the THAICOM 8 launch today mainly to see if they can stick the landing again...which they did. It's just amazing to watch, this is the third time in a row where they've successfully landed a booster engine at sea, fourth one total. This has really gotten me interested in spaceflight again, who knows maybe I'll see us land on Mars before I croak.  :)

Here are some of the previous landings if you haven't seen them yet.

I love SpaceX and everything they do. Not only because I'm a space buff, but also because SpaceX is a shining example of what is possible when you unleash the creative and productive power of free enterprise.

Just missed the liftoff saw the rest of it today.  I was browsing Twitter when I saw a tweet about it, otherwise I would have had no idea it was happening.  The stage 1 landing was pretty cool.

I think what amazes me most is how they have on board cameras that actually allow us to see the craft in its different stages. Here is the Hosted Webcast for today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBYC4f79iXc

At around 36 minutes you can see the shot from Stage 1 as it's returning to land, the view of the Earth is just amazing.

You should be a member of the Space Frontier Foundation -- a group of folks who have exactly the same idea and have been working on this stuff behind the scenes for a long time and have been important in helping it all happen.  The SFF has conferences about once a year.  It is a group of amazing folks with a passion for and achievements in furthering goals like cheap access to space, asteroid mining, space-based solar power, even human colonization of space.

Also, if you like this stuff, I recommend the book "The High Frontier", by O'Neill.  (There's also a wacky one that I loved -- "The Millennial Project", by Savage -- but I'm not sure if that one is for everyone.)

As much as you and I argue about some things, I think we have a lot of similarities.  :aok

I've heard of them... Dunno about becoming a member though. Are you one?

We probably have more in common than not. :)

Yes.

The annual conference this year is in June in Seattle -- fortunately not during the weekend, so I can attend it and the scenario.

If they have one in Europe in future, I'll try to send you a message about it.  Or, if they have it in Seattle again, you are welcome to stay at our house for it if you'd like.  :aok

I'm taking a two-week road trip down to Germany and Austria in August, so if there's a conference there and then it would be perfect. And thanks for the invitation! Always wanted to visit Seattle so that would have been great! :)

Btw. Do you play KSP?

I am proud to say that we have a Sic Pup that is a SpaceX employee. He has not been around much lately, for obvious reasons. He does promise to return one day soon. He goes by Pensley.
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

Haven't seen SpaceX. Is it anything like Space Hookers? I watched that.
