Thunderbirds F-16 crashed in Colorado Springs
« on: June 02, 2016, 02:47:35 PM »
One of the Thunderbirds F-16's appears to have crashed in the Colorado Springs area after the airshow for the AirForce Academy.  Pilot ejected and is being evaluated.

Wow, a/c looks to be a good shape on the ground still - not sure how that happened if the pilot ejected, check out the pics.  Maybe he ejected after he did an emergency landing, saw some lights, like the old "fire" one and decided getting out riding the rocket would be faster than trying to climb out.

With the already insanely undermanned/planed USN losing 2 Superhornets recently, the last thing the USAF/USN need is to lose another a/c, Tbirds or otherwise, nice to see it looks salvageable at least (basing this on recent articles all over the defense blogs that 1/2 of the aircraft in the inventory couldn't fight today if they needed to, or more).

Planes are replaceable.  It takes 25 years to replace a pilot.  Glad he made it out safely.  I saw a news video that said he had just minor injuries, most likely from the ejection.
Currently ignoring Vraciu as he is a whoopeeed retard.

The odds of a Thunderbird and Blue Angel crashing on the same day are pretty astronomical.

Any word on the navy pilot?  Article said they still haven't heard. Probably not a good sign.

Wow, what are the odds.  Sucks.

I've been posting a lot on other boards about recent defense articles about just how bad a shape USAF/USN planes/squadrons are in.  Maintenance, morale, readiness, flight time, over worked ground crew - this is a possible result.

Hope the Navy guy got out.
