Tesla autopilot

I read this article. I see the police incident report.

Best I can figure is the sensors saw road underneath the tractor trailer and figured it was good to go, hence removing the guys head.

Not for nothing, but this isn't an autonomous vehicle - and it's not built to the same spec as a cat 3 autoland on an aircraft. Scary to see, and frightening to see where plaintiffs attys will be going.

This just in, the driver was watching Harry Potter on a portable dvd player, and evidently, didn't have his hands on the wheel as required....

I still cannot see the point in a self driving car?

Is it so the powers that be can take over your car when they require?

If its for moving goods why don't they send it by train?

As unpredictable as humans can be, how can ANYBODY be so arrogant to think they can predict EVERY stupid thing that can be done?

"This"?  What do you mean by "this"?  I think as autopilot becomes more widespread, "this" as defined as auto crashes, will only get better, i.e. less frequent.

Im assuming the tractor trailer turned in front of the car failing to yield to right of way traffic?

Itasca, IL – Preliminary estimates from the National Safety Council indicate motor vehicle deaths were 8% higher in 2015 than they were in 2014 – the largest year-over-year percent increase in 50 years. The Council estimates 38,300 people were killed on U.S. roads, and 4.4 million were seriously injured, meaning 2015 likely was the deadliest driving year since 2008.

To many safety features and distractions in new vehicles make people lazy and so don't concentrate on driving.

yes the national safety council. :old:

There was also a increase in people falling out of trees

Seems like the auto industry is creating gimmicks to sell more units.

Electric cars etc point to one thing, they know in 30 years time only the elite will be allowed or able to have cars.

Investigation by tesla says the sensors could not tell the white side of the trailer from the bright sky.
